Pro-Tech TR-4

Awesome knife. I much prefer the CPM D2 steel. I bought a TR4 in that steel, then went back and bought 2 Rockeye Protech's in CPM D2 as well. They have the HT spot on. Tough, user friendly, and holds a great edge.
The TR4 has a big handle, but the ergonomics and blade shape and geometry are awesome. Overall a big knife.
Overall, the knife is awesome. I like most Protech's, very well built! I carry my Rockeye's more, just because they are smaller. I do like that the TR4 has a safety, even though I rarely use it.
When I want to carry a big tough blade, it is either my Calavera Cutlery large El Patron, or the TR4.
Heads up, BladeHQ usually gets a CPM D2 TR4 in on fairly regular basis. They might have one now, not sure.
Oh, and do NOT get one with a stainless steel handle, I have one with a Damascus blade. It weights over 10oz.. Wish I would have got it with an aluminum handle!

i have a few of them in both steels. i like both steels...neither matters to me. i like the safety and size of the blade.

I bought one for my dad for Christmas and was seriously impressed when I checked it out before wrapping. If I was into autos, that is the one I would buy

How is the finish on the Aluminum handle hold up?
Very well. I have a TR-5 (for about 2 years now) and not a sign of wear. Also, does not slip out of hand either.
Protech is an awesome company with fantastic CS.

The handle finish holds up good. Keys and such will occasionally put silver marks on it. They are not scratches, just the material the keys are made of rubbing off on the finish. Just a heads up.
Overall, yes, the finish holds up well.

I had one. Like everyone else has said so far... it was spot on in every way. Mine was a fish scale handle, IIRC, with a coated CPM-D2 blade. I moved it along because of the size, not for any issue with the knife. I did like the safety on the TR-4 and I wish that it would become a standard feature of my favorite Protech, the TR-3. Only one version of the TR-3 has it and I haven't lucked into one of those yet.
