Tac Knives is a great mag and after my local news stand stopped carrying it I figured I better subscribe. I subscribed via their website and my credit card. Three months go by and still no mag or billing to my card. So I e mailed them and got a prompt and courteous reply from Steve Dick saying he`d pass it along to the proper dept. More than another month goes by with no e mail contact and I see that it`s been charged to me card. This is good,I figured I should be getting my first issue soon. Another month and I get a letter from Harris publishing saying that my subscription has been processed and will be started May 2000!!!! Am I out of line or is it outrageous to wait 6 months for a magazine suscription?! Now I`m not sure if I should just wait *another* 4 months (!)or contact em and demand they credit my card and tell em to keep their magazine subscription. What do you folks think? Has anyone else had any similar experiences? Marcus

Marcus,

I suspect you are suffering from a little miscommunication. I currently have in my hands the March 2000 edition of Tactical Knives. Since, Tactical Knives is published on a bi-month;y basis, the next issue is the May 2000 issue. Not sure when it will be out but I would guess maybe in February/March 2000 timeframe (closing dates for articles was December 28, 1999.

I usually just call their number and have never had a problem with their service. Why don't you call them and talk to a customer rep. The number is:888-8KNIVES. Hope this helps.

i just get my mags at the book store, ever try going to Barnes and nobles, pages for all ages (mebbe only around here, but its literally pages for all ages at that store

they got everything from kid books to knife mags), or whatever other big book store chains you got? Of course i live in a small crappy town where newstands are hard to find, just book stores.... well mebbe there are newstands, but i probably ignore them because they dont carry blade magazine

i think its also safer that way because your magazines end up in better condition, i heard lots of people saying that when they order magazines they come in the mail all bunged up and the glossy new feel of the magazine is gone ;(

I paid cash for my subscription at the NY Custom Knife Show in Nov and didnt receive the current issue either, had to buy it at the newsstand. If I dont get the next issue, how do I show I paid cash for it at the show? Hmmmm. They did give me a Camillus military knife for subscribing though.

At one time I had a subscription to TK. I did not renew it, as it was always at the store magazine stand at least a week before it arrived in the mail.

The only problem I have ever had with Tactical Knives came when my renewal missed their deadline last year. When I didn't get the issue I was expecting, I called and they sent one out to me. Give them a call.

I take subscriptions very seriously. I live 40 miles from the nearest large bookstore or news stand. If I don't get it in the mail, I probably won't get it.

My knives are just like rabbits---they keep multiplying!!

When it comes to magazine subscriptions, my philosophy is when one pays, one better get!! And on time!! After all, aside from the convenience of delivery and a price savings, they should arrive before they hit the local news stands!!

I' ve been subscribing for a few years now and I did not received one issue from 99 and after checking with the postal system and contacting TKs customer service, they refused to make good and to do the right thing by extending my subscription by one issue. IMO, their message was "too bad". So, I' ll have to say that there customer service is LOUSY. That' s my experience.

PS- Steven Dick also said that he would forward my complaints but I guess it didn' t help.

Typically, the date on a magazine is NOT the date the magazine comes out -- rather, it's the date that the retailer needs to take the magazine off the shelves. Essentially, the date is to help the retailer, not you!

So, the current issue of Blade, which came out in January, is dated for March. So when March comes, retailers will take the "March" issue off the shelves, and put the May issue up.

Probably, Harris has a policy that when you subscribe, you don't get the *current* issue, your subscription starts with the next issue. That next issue is probably out in March, and is called the "May" issue.

All just guesses, but that's the way I understand it.
