Probably a stupid question...

...but here goes. I know the Cutlass Machete has a stick tang with a single hole for the lanyard tube. Would it be possible to drill it to accept a Becker handle without compromising strength or being a bad fit? Just got a BK2 and really prefer the handle to the one on the Cutlass.

I wouldn't feel comfortable about drilling any more holes in the tang. Below is a picture of one with the handles removed from Tommytheeho's modification thread.

Now, you could do something similar to his, but shape the wood or chosen material to the shape of a pair of Becker scales before attaching them to the machete.

I suppose you could also treat it like a hidden tang knife, line up the lanyard hole and build a piece to surround the tang to attach the scales to. You may need to get creative with eopxy and/or G10 or Micarta liners to make it work. Maybe epoxy and pin the liners together with a U shaped piece around tang. Attach Becker scales to liners and add a lanyard tube through the whole assembly.

Like what m. wohlwend did here on a Mora. It won't be as strong as a full tang Becker, but it might just be crazy enough to work.

get a pair of Becker scales, line up the lanyard holes and notch them to fit around the tang, then use epoxy putty to glue it all together?
