problem? or maybe not?

I recently took apart my small 21 for a cleaning, I also polished the washers. Now it is buttery smooth, lockup is nice, no blade play, etc. The blade will even drop closed when you push the lock bar. The only problem (I don't think this happened before) is that now when I push the lockbar the blade has a ton of wiggle. I tried to see what my other frame lock knives did when faced with the same problem and none of them had that wiggle. Is there a fix for this? Or is it part of the design?

Thanks!

How did you polish the washers? (Exact process, please).

Are you absolutely certain both washers went back in?

Over milling the washers, or omitting one from the build will result in what you observe (removing the lock bar tension results in side play, and tension from the bar seems to eliminate it).

I polished the washers with some brass & copper cleaner. I am certain both washers went back in. I am talking about when the lock bar tension is completely removed there is side to side play as you described. None of my other frame locks do this, so I guess it is just a CR thing?

update...took the knife apart again reassembled the whole thing and now its fine. I must of goofed up somewhere:foot:

Good to hear. I checked both of my small 21s and they didn't have the symptom you described. In my experience taking apart the knife, lubing it and putting it together again usually solves just about any problem.

No, none should have this. I'd speculate that you got something (debris) between the blade stop and the frame or something of that ilk that resulted in your pivot bushing not seating against both slabs.

It's all speculation now! Glad it's fixed and no damage done.

Do you notice any change in how freely the blade swings? I'd speculate it might not be quite as free as before?

Firstly, I am glad that it has worked out for you.

The following is just my two cents with regards to polishing.

After years of carrying my Insingo the blade drops by its own weight when the lockbar tension is removed. The area under the washers are almost mirror polished.

I feel the risk of polishing the washers and maybe damaging something is just not worth it. The knife will get there, it just requires some patients.
