Problem sending PM's

I recently started experiencing an issue where I can't send PM's longer than about 3 lines. It may have been happening for a while cause I don't send long PM's very often; however I first noticed it yesterday. When I try to send a slightly longer message (ie. 6 or 7 lines) the browser just keeps loading and loading, nothing ever happens. As soon as I delete few lines it behaves normally, the message sends and is copied to my sent folder.

I have tried: getting rid of and links in the message, deleting all formatting, two different browsers, deselecting "automatically parse links" and "attach signature". None of those seems to have changed the behavior; the only thing that affects it seems to be length.

I had to send a short paragraph size message today in 4 parts for it to work! Is anyone else having this issue? Is it a common thing which I simply haven't noticed until now? Am I missing something obvious? :confused:

Any help would be much appreciated!

What kind of computer or tablet or phone are you using?
What kind of browser are you using? Chrome, IE, Firefox, Iron, Opera, ?
What kind of connection are you using to get online? Cable model, DSL, satellite?

It's hard to help when you don't provide details on what you are using.
 
Sorry for the lack of info. windows 7 professional running on a PC. Tried in both Firefox and chrome. internet connection is ADSL. It isn't a bandwidth or connection speed issue.

Before this I never had an issue sending any size of PM. while I was having the issue I played around with it and figured out that I could send smaller messages; however anytime I tried sending a larger message It hung. All of this was while trying to message one particular user.

Later this morning I had to send another larger PM to a different user and that worked like a charm as usual. After having success with that I tried sending the first user the same PM and it failed again.

It looks to me like it has to do with PM'ing that particular user. ANy idea what would cause this type of issue with a particular user?

Thanks for the details, it helps. Not sure if it is a user issue or possible a "session" issue. Meaning that amount of time that someone is logged in without logging out. I've read all kinds of different things regarding what could be causing these little glitches. When I got the same thing (even more frustrating when trying to move posts), I have done the following:
Log out of BF completely.
Close the browser window.
Clear the cookies and temporary Internet files from the browser
Once you do this, check the Mozilla site, Windows Update, or Google Chrome download site and see if you have the latest version of that browser.
Once done reboot the computer.
I found out through trial and error that too many cookies were basically creating a glitch and making my browser time out. I installed a new version of the browser I use (Chrome and Iron), log back into BF and see if the issue presents itself again.

The other ultimate weird issue I had was being given a link and being asked to try and post in it. I, as well as about 30 other people tried posting 5 characters in a specific thread and no one of the 30 or so people could post in it. I still wonder what the what happened.
 
I figured it must be some little glitch like that. Thanks for the info

your post reminded me a couple other things I tried right away (without avail) before I created this thread:

-logged out of BF
-cleared cookies
-closed browser
-rebooted computer
-tried from a different computer entirely

Probably one of those mysterious ones that will never be figured out. Anyways, thanks for the help!

I think there is a limit on the number of characters you can send in a PM. I can't send a PM of any length without the PM timing out. It doesn't matter which OS or browser is used and it doesn't matter whether the cookies are cleared, the cache cleared or whatever.

Maybe Spark can get back to us about any limit the length of a PM can be.

It would be interesting to know what the limit is if there is one. I would think the forum would come back with a warning message saying something like " your message is too long use a maximum of __ characters? Anyway I think I've sent longer PM's than this one but I could be wrong.
