Well sorta....:D

Just got my Swamp Rat, Rodent Solution...

I'm really glad to get the Rodent Solution. Kinda makes me think of some of the current Bushcraft trend knives, and it's hard to beat SR101 AFAIC.

Not a bad combo...

So far I'm really pleased with my latest addition to the Swamp, and yes I'll be dyeing the handles to match my RMD and HRLM, that'll be a Suweet trio! ;)

Enjoy!!!

Hey Rainwalker
Could you tell us the steps you take to dye your handles? They look great! I love the look of black paper, but really love the gripiness of canvas
Thanks

Nice comparison shots Rainwalker. Take some of the dyed handles on the Solution when you get it done. Thanks.

I really like the Canvas Micarta a lot too. The process is really simple, I just carefully and thuroughly rub on "Fiebings's Professional Oil Dye" similar to the same way I would on any leather. Wipe off the excess, I usually wipe extra hard on the blade coating and use a Q-tip in the rivet holes and let dry... and wala it's done. ;)

Here's a few others that I've dyed... aside from the Res-C handled knives in the pics... :)

Thanks
Rainwalker, I may order another as my "test" subject...

Hey does yours have a different smell to it? My smells a little "burnt" compared to my HRLM and RMD....

No problem, glad to help.

Mine smelled pretty much as I expected, Micarta has a distinct smell that I'm used to, from working on and sanding it myself, I will admit the smell was slightly fresher and stronger than some, but not really different.

It kinda makes me think of a new car type smell, only different...:o:D

I love the smell of a new Knife!!!:D:D:D

Nice set of blades and it's good to see a new Rat enjoying a Camp Tramp. One of the first and one of the best.

looking good, jeff. :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
that's the combo mine's coming in, I love the tanker gray.

Great shots man! Thanks for sharing those. Its good to see a comparison of all the recent SRKW releases. Any leather pants in the works?

Yea, I've become quite fond of Tanker Grey and Black Micarta...

I've got a couple of ideas for mine, but I've got a few orders to fill first, and I gotta get caught up on a few other things ATM. Maybe a bushcraft style... or maybe something else, gotta think on it some more...:)

Jeff,
Can you use the standard leather dye or is it essential to use the Professional Oil Dye on the handle? Is the dye permanent or does it eventually wear off?

The Pro Oil Dye seems to penetrate better, and it penetrates enough to hold pretty fast, you'd have to put the handles through some pretty extreme conditions to wear it off, but I guess it's possible under certain conditions. I've never deemed it necessary, but one could use a sealer like Atom Wax, or the like, to further seal in the color in I guess.

wow that is nice looking.
They are bigger than I thought, I think I will need another.

Rainwalker - Just want to make sure I understand. Are you applying the dye to the blade in addition to the scales? Seems a little odd, but what do I know. Thanks and the Solution looks great after the dye job.

I try to get as little on the blade coating as possible, some is unavoidable though, so I just try to wipe it off as soon as I can when I do, ;)
