I bought a 2014 Case Tony Bose Lockback Whittler , it's a great knife in every way except it grinds when opening and closing . I figure it's the tang grinding against the spring , but due to the tight tolerances this beauty is made in it could be anything . I flushed it a couple times with gun oil and have opened and closed it about 200 + times . Has anyone had this problem and if so what did you do . Also any ideas would be welcome . I'd rather fix it myself if I can , but will send it back to Case as a last resort . Thanks .

I've used alcohol and shop air to blow them out. One knife had little burrs on the liners. I just touched them with a stone to get rid of the burr and that helped a little. You can feel for the burr with you fingernail.

Thanks Steve , I'm a retired Tool and Die maker so I don't have access to a decent air pressure to blow it out , and I doubt if those cans of compressed air are strong enough . I'm thinking of sending it back to Case as I still think it's the bottom of the tang rubbing on the lock spring , as it starts at about 75 degrees open and pretty much continues till locked .

If it grinds when opening & closing it must be returned to CASE. These are very expensive knives and they should have been thoroughly inspected and tested before being sent out.

I agree to send it back. I would send it to the vendor first as they are better customer service IMO. When I got my stockman back from Case they hacked it.

Reading through this sub forum everyday for years, I've seen very few problems reported with the Case/Bose yearly collaborations. In the few instances that have been reported the knives were sent back to Case, and in every instance I recall were repaired properly, to the owners satisfaction. Unless the dealer has another one to send you, I'd send it straight to Case. As has been mentioned already, these knives are expensive and need to be held to a higher standard. Case knows this.

Very sound advice! :)

Thanks , I contacted Case today and will be sending it back . Like everyone said , it's too expensive of a knife to have passed QC like that .

I wish I bought it from a dealer , problem is I won it on ebay . Great advice , and good to know Case will make it right .

I've only heard good things about Case's warranty and repairs. Send it back, they'll make it right. And likely they'll do it in 1/2 the time they quote you to fix it.
