Problem with a kydex sheath...

Hi guys & gals!

The KaBar Becker Necker is a knife I used to carry not that much. But I bought a Maxpedition Fatboy as an outdoor-gear-package. So I´d like use the BK11 as a knife attached to the pack. The problem is - the knife is sitting weak in the sheath and is clapping when resting in there. No big deal, it could even fall out of the sheath while walking or hiking through the woods/mountains.

What can I do to tighten the kydex? I almost thought on a hair-dry-cleaner from my better half. But when I do such a treatment, I have fear that the knife won´t be able to be pulled out of the sheath.

What should I take care of when tightening the kydex?

It might be a stupid question, but I don´t have any experience in working with kydex in any way.

Thanks in advance :)

Not sure how much can be done with it, a call to Kabar/Becker might be in order - maybe they can help. IIRC those are glass reinforced nylon, not Kydex or other thermoplastic, you might not be able to heat form it. If you can, I wouldn't worry too much about it getting too snug - you can always heat it back up a little and try again.

Is it an aftermarket sheath? I only ask because you don't say so and the sheath that comes with the bk11's is a glass filled nylon sheath. If it is the glass filled nylon then I don't think you can adjust it.

Thanks for the replies, fellows.

It´s the original sheath I got when I bought the knife. It looks and feels like kydex, but it might also be "just" some glass filled nylon.

Calling KaBar can be a little problematic from my location... Germany and the US... then the shipping costs.

How should I heaten up the kydex, if I can do it? Completelly or is it better to heaten it on that area where the knife is kept on the ricasso / finger guard in the sheath?
