The handle scales that came with my becker bk16 suck! its not the grip, the grip is good. When the knife came the scales looked good but when I took the scales of to see how the tan ones looked the tan ones would not go flat. I don't mean not flush I mean I could see daylight between the scales and the tang! So I took the tan scales of and put the black ones back on and they did it to! So I took the black scales of to see what the problem was and the rivets for the screws stuck out and prevented them from being flush! Both of the scales did it so I sent it back for a replacement. I hope it was a fluke because the blade is excellent. If the replacement dos the same thing than I will get micarta for it because I really like the blade.

Sorry if this offended you. I really like becker knives and this fluke will not stop me from buying more in the future.

edit: Guyon was right I was wrong I screwed them to tight thank you guyon

That's pretty strange... I recently got a Bk 16 and did not have this problem... but I was wondering what you mean when you say:
So I took the black scales of to see what the problem was and the rivets for the screws stuck out and prevented them from being flush!

That's odd. I don't understand what you mean by "the rivets for the screws stuck out" either. Were the screws tightened all the way?

i assume he means the ends of the screws stuck out past the handle a bit? meaninf the grips are too thin or screws too long or a combo problem. could have run too the hardware store and for a dollar or two fixed the problem and had stianless steel screws/ rivets!!:)

Rivets?? On a Becker knife?
Heresy . . . no such thing.

Additional explanation required . . . ?

Sounds to me like you might have cranked them down too tightly? This maneuver could have caused the scales to bow/flex and could have caused the bolt to stick out too far past the nut.

ETA: mountainmist, of course I'm speculating here. The reason is mainly because you had the same trouble twice, and the chances of getting defective scales out of two separate batches (black and tan) are a lot lower than getting one bum set. I also know from experience that you can pretty easily crank down too much on zytel scales without realizing it. Since my "incident," I go to just snug and have been fine. If I'm worried about a bolt coming out, I just drop a little clear fingernail polish on the threads.

Whatever the case, I hope your replacement serves you better.

Thank you guyon. You were right about screwing them to tight I'm sorry for the original title being rude. will not mess up the replacement.
