Problem (?) with BM mini-AFCK

I bought a NIB mini AFCK, and there's something about it that bothers me. The blade has no "snap" when closing. I can move the blade out 1/8" or 1/4" or 3/4", and it just stays there. I got a sharp surprise when I reached into the pocket on my truck door and the point of the knife inserted itself into my fingertip.

Is this a "feature" of liner-locks, or can I loosen it up a bit so the blade will snap into place when the knife is closed? Any help would be appreciated

There is a small ball bearing near the end of the liner lock. This fits into a detent in the tang of the blade, holding it closed. Obviously, it is not working. You can try putting a drop of oil directly on the ball (hold the liner lock away from the blade with the blade open, and you will be able to see the ball). If this doesn't work, return it to BM, and they should fix it free.

My mini will remain slightly open if allowed. It will also stay shut when fully closed. My thoughts are that the ball detent is small and not that strong and will only come into play when the blade is almost fully closed.

It's only a mistake if you fail to learn from it!

My mini exhibits the same tendencies. It doesn't really bother me- I assume it is characteristic of this model, I wouldn't call it a defect. I carry it around in the small BM cordura pouch which works well. No danger of it opening accidentally.

I had the same model a long time ago, it WILL open again at some time. I would NOT consider this acceptable.

Just send it to Benchmade with a little note explaining your problem. I'm sure they would gladly fix it.

Thank you all for the comments on the model. I think I'll pay a visit to the Benchmade factory, it's only about 70 miles from where I live. It sure seems like a marginal safety aspect of the knife. I would not consider this as a daily carry knife at this point, and that's why I was interested in it in the first place.
