Problem with BM Mini-Griptilian

Hey folks -

Long time member but first time I've posted anything. Thanks for all the great advice and reviews.

On to business - I hope someone can help me with this. About a year ago, I bought my first BM knife - a Mini Griptilian. Like the handle and the quality seemed first rate - except for one problem. When the knife was closed, it rattles like there is a screw or spring loose somewhere in the knife. I've taken it to my local knife shop and they seem to think it has something to do with the spring in the Axis lock. Needless to say, I'm not happy and I don't carry this knife because of this problem - I know its may sound small but I've heard alot about BM'ss quality and I'm a little disappointed.

Has anyone experienced similar problems with the Axis lock on a BM Mini-griptilian rattling when closed? If you did how did you fix it? Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

This rattling has been discussed before and isn't really a problem. Apparently the stop pin has a sleeve around it that may rattle when the knife is open - some knives do it more than others. Once people realize what it is, it generally doesn't bother them.

you could call bm and ask them, but ive herd of this before and people always said it wasnt a problem.

I had the same problem with my full sized grip. It was the stop pin sleeve rattling back and forth, but there is no real problem caused by this. However I was able to fix it by slightly tightening the blade pivot bolt.

Yup, just they they said, it is the sleeve covering the stop pin, I have one Benchmade that does that, a 556, and my observation is it's that the sleeve surrounding the stop pin may have been a tiny bit shorter than the width of the space between the liners. It has nothing to do with the axis springs. Mine only rattles when the knife is closed, and oddly, only occasionally...sometimes I shake it and it doesn't. No worries, as there is no blade play on mine in the locked position.

There is no sleeve on the stop pin. It is slightly smaller in diameter on each end where it goes into each liner. Occasionally the stop pin does rattle a tiny bit. This has no adverse effect on the function of the knife. In fact the stop pin may rotate avoiding a tiny flat to be created over years of useage. (which would iteslf be automatically compensated for by the axis lock.)

Quick check: push finger against stop pin, now shake. Does it still make noise? If not, there's your "problem." :)
