Problem with BM screws.

I've had a BM806D2 for a few weeks now, and I noticed that one of the screws seemed loose. So I turned the knife over to see how far the screw had come out, and the screw fell out completely! This is one of the two screws that hold the liners, scales, and spacer together.

So I put it back in, tried to tighten the screw, but it just keeps rotating without "grabbing". And if you poke the end of the screw from the other side, it falls out.

Any idea what the problem might be? The end of the screw seems very shiny compared to the rest of it, maybe there was a problem in construction or screw tightening? Dunno.

From your description it sounds as though the screw is stripped.

I'm not sure if BM sends out screws or not. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't.

Send it back to them. Tell them to fix it. They should. Any reputable company would. BenchMade is definately a reputable company.

As Sam asked, what's probably happened is you've lost the small black nut that fits into the oposing liner, unlike some folders who just tap the other liner B/M uses tiny threaded circles that fit into the G-10, I suppose it's possible for 1 to be jarred loose during reassembly, they are epoxied in.
Call Angie at W/R and she will ether send you a spare nut and screw or repair it for you.
If not I have several spares of each,, e-mail on file. Ron

Actually, the black circular nut is still there. So I'm thinking that the threading in the nut got stripped somehow, because the screw doesn't seem to be bad. Or it could be both. I've sent e-mail to BM a day or two ago.

Send the knife back to Angie in Benchmade's warranty department and she will get you all fixed up.

You could try exchanging parts with the other screw/nut assembly and see what happens...

Send it back, send it back, send it ba ack. Send it back, send it back send it back, send it, send it back.

To BM or at first to where you bought it.

Nothing else.

"Send it BacK" isn't always a good solution -- S-Pyramid's location being in Japan, major hasles come up when shipping knives. Most of us don't have that problem, but many Canadian, European,Australian and Asian Forumites can't just "send it back" easily.
Seems like a company policy for small items that wouldn't endanger the warranty is a good idea. Emailing BM and Angie seems like the right idea to me rather than try to send it thru Japanese customs twice.

I am from germany, so i know, what kind of trouble might arise.

So i said, at first, to this one, where it was bought (should be in country).

I had had a problem with one BM knife and contacted the shop where it was bought, after that BM, to get support. I got everything i wanted (a new knife) without paying more than one time shipping in country. No taxes, nothing. Angie says, she is trying to accomodate out of country customers. That is true. So Pyramids problems seems to be a serious failure and i say, he should stay away from "Self - made" - solutions.

The trader or BM. There is warranty- use it.

I have recently have the same poblem with a BM 730 and 886, where can I try to get Locktite, if it would help?

The problem has (hopefully) been resolved. BM is sending me extra screws and nuts.

I bought the knife from knifeworks.com, in the States, so return to either the dealer or BM would cost me a significant amount (shipping and insurance). Also, it's near impossible to find BMs in Osaka, unless I go all the way to Tokyo (the trip would run me around $150). And any knives that I find in Osaka all go for retail prices.
