I just got the EDC in D2 from A.G. Russell. Generally I like the knife a lot, except in one respect - I cannot get the D2 blade sharp to my satisfaction. (It came with a so-so edge out of the box).I have Spyderco knives in ATS-55 and VG10 and Cold Steels in Carbon V and I cannot get the EDC ANYWHERE near as sharp. I don't know if it's the D2 or the recurve blade that's giving me problems, or a combination of both. I've heard that once D2 is sharp, the key is simply maintaining the edge. Does anyone know if Camillus or AG Russell would be able/willing to sharpen the knife to that initial level of sharpness?

A.G. lists his contact information at the bottom of the main page. I'd call the number (it's toll free) this upcoming week and ask them. I've spoken with them a number of times and they're always ready to help. :)

I bought 2 of the D-2 EDC's from AG Russell (one for me and one for my middle son). Both were easy to sharpen on the ceramic rod style sharpener. I don't think it would be easy to sharpen a recurve style on a stone. The D-2 has worked out well and holds a good edge. I am not sure what you are using to sharpen yours, but try the SharpMaker or Crock Stick style "V" sharpeners if you haven't.

A while back I bought an EDC with 154CM alloy blade. It wasn't up to my sharpness standards so I got an Ultimate Edge diamond coated sharpening tool with sort of an eliptical profile. The curved surface of the rod fits into the recurve well. I reprofiled the blade and brought it up to a shaving edge using the diamond rod and ceramic rods, but it was sort of a pain. When AG Russell came out with a D2 model I bought one and used the same diamond rod to reprofile the edge. I like the edge that I got on the D2 blade better than I liked the 154CM blade.
