Problem with how scales are secured

Hi folks.
I was asked to clean up and sharpen a Grohmann DH Russel Belt Knife. They are made in Pictou, NS, Canada. I noticed that the scales (they are some kind of wood) on one side seemed to be a bit loose. Then when I really looked at them discovered that one of the pins (not sure what they are called) on one side of the handle was missing. The other side was there. There are three of them and are brass and are flat on the handle.
The side that it was still there seemed a bit loose and out farther than the other three were.
I would like some suggestions as to what I could do. Not sure how to fix this.
So guys any suggestions???
Regards
Tar :)

I imagine that they are those pins that are screwed together and then sanded, removing the cut out for a torx, flat, or Philips head. The only thing I can think of is to remove the lose pin and peen it with a brass pin.

They are called "cutler's rivets" and are two pieces that are hammered together. You should be able to punch out the remaining side and replace the rivet. Knifemaking supply houses sell them in both brass and nickel silver.

Thanks folks for the replies. If I understand this right that the "cutler's rivets" fit one into each side? Then you hammer them tight? Will they then lie flat on the handle like the other two do? One more thing. I am in Canada and is there any place on this side of the border that has these or do I have to go to a US firm to get them. A name for a company on either side of the border would be great.
Thanks for the help folks.

Tar :)

Search "knife maker's supplies." Look for a company beginning with "J".
You might also find then on Ebay.
