Problem with Kershaw Skyline

Hey guys! I got a tan skyline for christmas, and I love it. However, last week, I noticed that the main pin had, in fact, loosened to the point that it had fallen out of the knife. It's been loose before, and then I tighten it, but never this loose. If I tighten it too much, the knife obviously doesn't open very well. Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks for your help!

Get some of this

It's blue loctite. It's a threadlocker. Pretty self explanatory actually.
Apply it to the screw's threads, or the threads in the handle, let it cure, and then you should be good.

I'd pick you're self up some blue lock tight for the pivot screw (make sure it's the blue kind) just dab a little on the screw tighten it so that it flips well and let it sit over night and problem solved!!

Just for maximum efficacy, clean any lube or gunk off the screw threads before applying the Loctite.

You may not have the means to do this, but if you want to keep the knife serviceable without putting locktite on the pivot screw, here's what I did: Polished the bronze washers to a mirror surface on a DMT extra-extra fine sharpening stone, then reassembled the knife with a tiny drop of Nye thin synthetic hobby lubricant oil on each side of the pivot. I can crank the pivot screw down pretty tight now and the knife still opens very smoothly.

Sharp, I need you to polish my washers for me...

no way in hell I am spending an hour polishing two $0.80 washers for you - you're gonna' have to do it yourself :p

Actually, the washers didn't polish all the way across due to surface irregularity. If I do it on another knife I will start with a higher-grit stone to get the washers dead-flat first (I assume this will help with preventing grit from getting in there and messing up the action). I did it when I was flat on my back in the initial stages of recovery from a motorcycle accident and needed something to kill some time :p

Lol! Well tell me where to get those bronze washers for $.80 and I will start practicing !

I would like to know where to get the bronze washrs as well. I went to Ace hardware looking for one when I lost mine once. But i had to sand it down to fit. So if you know whre I can get them I would not mind having backups as i like to improve the Skylines I have.

Give Kershaw a call and ask them for a set.

Why would it take an hour to polish some bronze washers?? I just polished my skyline's washers and it takes a few minutes tops.
Smear some 1500+ grit diamond strop paste on a stack of paper and use a figure 8 motion. Polishes right up. Then put it back together with some flouro grease and you'll notice a difference. Mine flips out relatively easy now, %100 SOLID lock, and is just slightly off center. Good enough for me. Better than what it was anyway.

Teflon tape, faster than loctite.

That's a fantastic idea!

Because I wanted them flat, and I used a very fine grain stone to attempt that. When I said "polished", I meant I was trying to get a flat, scratch-free surface, not polishing with the intent to simply remove tarnish.

If you want to remove material use sand paper. Get a range of grit sizes so you don't waste time with a stone.
