Hey all,

I used my FRN Endura today to open a package containing my new Starmate (LOVE IT), and something very strange happened, I noticed some very obvious vertical blade play, enough to scare me, Is this normal, I can feel it all the way through the lock and blade? any help will be appreciated.

PS has anyone noticed the #7 reason why you might not be able to log-in on the log-in bulletin? "you are a dirty hippy-get a haircut hippy"?

Which way is the play?

I can bear down on the back of the blade on a couple of FRN Spydies I have, and there's absolutely no blade-play, but if you push the blade up-wards (or bear down hard on the handle), you can feel the blade and the lock move. I doubt it has any effect on the security of the lock, though. I'll be sending one of them in anyway, just to get it looked at.

My Endura is on it's way back to Mike, but I can't replicate this on Dleica here. But it's Delica II, not sure if the FRN vs. stainless might make a difference.

Editd to add that my Endura is going back becaues of something I did(dinging up spyderedge) not because of any problems with the knife

Some lockbacks of a lot of manufacturers do have some very slight vertical play when in the locked position. You can feel it sometimes when you pull back on the blade in the locked position (imitating the pressure caused during heavy cutting). I think I remember Sal had mentioned a word for it some time ago and that a little of it is normal(?). I discovered that some lockbacks had this some time ago, and as long as it's very, very slight there doesn't seem too much of a problem.

Of course, nowadays before buying any lockback I usually open the blade than push back on the blade with my hand (not abuse, but again, imitating cutting pressure) and feel if there is that slight blade play or not, because it depends on the individual knife itself.
