Problem with my M2 lanyard hole

My CF Manix 2 had developed just the slightest amount of play at the flared lanyard tube. Well, being the handy guy that I am I decided to fix it myself. I cut off the heads of 2 #8 screws, inserted them into the lanyard holes, put the whole deal in some clamps and tightened. The resulting play in my knife is much worse. I have heard that you can use superglue to fix such problems but I was thinking that one of you guys might have another fix.

Thank you,

Paul

well the lanyard tube is press fit, ideally sending it back to spyderco would probably fix the problem,

I'm not sure I follow what you did with the screw heads but I guess it didn't work if it is much worse. Here is what I would do if it was my knife and I didn't want to send it off for a couple weeks. Get a tapered punch that fits into the lanyard hole part way and comes to a rest at the end of the lanyard tube. Then lightly tap the punch with a hammer checking the tube after each time to make sure you don't over do it. The punch will flare the very end of the tube slightly causing it to take up the slack and tighten up on the scale. Go easy and do more taps instead of one hard tap so you can control things. Do it on both sides if the tube is loose on both scales.

Of coarse doing your own work there is always a chance you can screw something up but it should be pretty easy. If you're not comfortable doing that then pay the shipping and send it back. You also don't want to make it so tight you can never take it apart again. You just want it to barely snug up and take any wiggle out.

Thats too bad, I did the exact same thing with my military not long ago, right down to the trimmed down #8 countersink screws and everything, and it worked great. The M2's lanyard hole is bigger right? Maybe the screw heads were too small?

CID25,

I think your right maybe some larger screws. I'll see if I have any #10 or #12 screws. I'll report back after I try it out.
