Problem with my new Emerson.

So i got my Commander Karambit, and I am disappointed in how it opens and closes. It is pretty rough and not smooth in its openening action at all. You have to use quite a bit of force to get it to flick open. Now the worse part is closing it. The tip of my thumb is all torn up and I got a good sized dent in my nail where the closing themb part is chewing into me. It is just so hard to push it down to close the blade, and if I use the "wave" feature it is impossible to close it with one hand, and I have to use my other hand to push down the thumb part to close it with a lot of force.

Are these knives supposed to be like this or does it just need to be adjusted or broken in?

Every now and then a sticky one gets out. You can mail it back with a letter and some bucks to describe it to them so they can fix it up or use a #2 lead pencil on the contact area that the lock hits on the blade and paint some lead in there. The graphite will ease the sticking for you and hopefully last about 30 flicks between having to reapply until it breaks in on its own.

Both the roughness and sticky lock will eventually work in but its going to need used to get there. Once the lock comes out enough so its behind the blade good and all the way you can spine tap it a few times and it will probably help but I wouldn't get carried away and start whacking on it. I'm not talking about whacks. Just taps if you catch my drift.

Thanks I'll try that, but anything I can do to make the bearings on both parts flow more smoothly, or will I just have to wait until they break in? There is a knife shop in the area that I get my knives sharpened at, and he does an amazing job, so maybe I should take it to him if it persists?

Well there are not bearings per say. Just washers and the blade rolls on a detent ball on the lock and another probably on the non lock side being an Emerson. You can take it apart and put a spot of Tuff Glide, or Miltec, or some other lube of your choice on both balls, and lube the washers also and see how that helps but mostly those type things wear in over time to become smoother and smoother.

Just take it apart and clean it really good with WD40. Wipe it down after that and apply whatever you want to use for a friction fighter. Mil Tec, drop of oil, graphite what have you. Put it back together with the blade centered and good to go. Still may need a bit of breakin but should be ok. No need to send it in for something as easy of a fix as this. keepem sharp

Hey Guys...

My experience is to give it a little time and let the lube get worked in..

It'll smoothen up just fine...

I wouldn't take it apart just yet..Use it for awhile,, open it alot and if it doesn't start getting smoother,, then look at your options...
