Problem with my small sebie

I've taken apart the knife to clean it up for the first time. I did it gently, as it's shown on the sticky in this part of the forum, without tightening to much each screw.

But now, when I try to tighten the pivot screw (even just a little !), the knife loses all its smoothness... If I try to tighten the screw normaly, it becomes a real friction folder :(

What's wrong?? Did it already happen to one of you ???

I'd really appreciate some help :(

take it to bits and try again. It sounds like one of the washers is out of place.

I did it... But it didn't change a lot...

On your sebies, how much do you tighten the pivot pin?

On mine, I must tighten the screw with great precautions if I don't want to "lock" the blade with frictions

It's like the blade + the washers was wider than the pivot axe...

I tighten all the way down till it's firm, sometimes it squeeks just a little

Try again to disaemble and reassemble, for whatever reason your washers are pinched between the handle side and the bushing. They fit over the bushing and should be flush with the edge of the bushing.

I remeber one time a year ago, it took me 5 tries to get it right, I felt like the biggest bozo. ( inever told anyone until now)

Okay I've tried to disassemble and reassemble the knife, and to turn over the washers. Things are going better...

But I still can't tighten firmly... I have to adjust it...

Somethings wrong if you can't tighten all the way down. You should be able to tighten it down as much as you like without the blade feeling tight.

Its happened to me twice before. Once it was the washer issue as mentioned above and another time it was actually a problem with the knife. It was like it didn't have the bushing (although it obviously did).

And how did you fix the problem BOK? You sent it back to CRK customer service? :(

I thought that a problem like that would not happen on a sebie...

it sounds like it's not a problem with the sebbi rather the person putting it togeather.

The tolerances of the parts are extremely thight/small. I generally don't have any problems putting mine back together. . . . .but. . . .I have one Sebbie that requires disassembly/reassembly several times.

Take it down again. When you put it back together, make sure that all of the screws are very loose. First, before tightening anything, make sure that the washers are in their correct position. Next, slowly tighten the pivot, periodically checking the pivot area to make sure that the washers are properly seated. Then, tighten the rest of the screws.

That seems to work for me.

I dont think andy ment any harm ;) but i do feel its the way its put back together is the problem , i think the washers are getting pinched .Dont put too much lube on the washers . Are you tightening the screws on the handle before you put the blade back in ( make sure you do ) ?
Hope you get it sorted

I thought the idea was to do up the screws on the handle before you put the blade back in , that way the washers shouldnt be able to move . Thats what Chris Reeve recomends .

Oh the other thing is if the washers now have a wrinkle or crease in them then they'll bind. So check all your washer surfaces are smooth.

What dunc5 says about the lube is really important , I've had to take mine down again several times after assembling all because of too much grease.

Wow very useful and constructive Andy... Thank you :)
sorry, at the time I thuoght you were moaning about QC on a sebbi and meant that the sebbi would be fine and you should (after a few attemps) be able to sort it out

When I took mine to bits I was very careful about examining how things were before I started playing. This includes which side had the larger washer, how the bushes felt and fitted togeather and how much grease was there (very little). I think the problems you might be having have already been covered.
Hope yuo get it back togeather fine

It's okay... After a lot of attempts, I finally manage to tighten the screw normaly (not very firmly but it's enough I think) without blocking the blade.

I don't really know what was wrong... But the precision is so fine on CRK's knives... The stresses applied by the scews may cause this kind of problems, especially on recent knifes like mine...

Thank you all for your answers.

Happy end :) ( fieeeew..... :o )

Hurray, you got it back and working. You probably now know more about Sebbies than you ever wanted to.

Was the google pin properly in place? Sounds like there might have been excess space between the google and the snatch.

I think it was DGG... I don't know what happen... I've just desassemble/reassemble the knife a couple of time... Maybe a problem with the washers' position...
