Hey Guys...

Just bought a new Native at a show...

The Knife is marked.

1st Generation BRK (Blue Ridge Knives)

Now there are a few things that bother me about the knife.

1. Theres some really nasty almost gouges or pits in the blade itself
2. The clip looks as though its right out of the punch press.. Kind of dull grey,,sharp edges...

The knife just doesn't look like typical spyderco quality...

Anyone know anything about this ??
Maybe a second or something...

The knife is only being used as a mold as a work knife,, but still kind of bugs me ...

The BRK(Blue Ridge Knives) Native IS NOT a spyderco, it's a cammilus(sp is off). The whole story can be found here in BFC/726 from Sal, but it's along the lines of: parts sold to them, assembled, and sold... no spydie QC or factory ppl involved...

Eric

I think I saw it at the same show - in Novi?

It is a Native made by Camillus and the general concensus is that the quality doesn't come close to matching those of Spyderco manufacture.

Here's a link to the discussion on the Spyderco.com website that includes Sal's comments about it.

Since Spyderco provided the handles for the BRK model it should work as a mold.

Guys..

You mean to say I got Burned ??

It says Spyderco all over it!!!!!!!

WTF!!!!

Eric...

Eric

Sorry to say it but ..... you got burned. Especially if you paid the sticker price

I guess that's why they were selling it without the box and the enclosed papers which identified Camillus as the responsible party.

Hey Guys....

Man are yuo guys on the BALL...
Can pull any wool over your eyes Dang...

Ok what I got myself here is a decent worker then...

Other than all of that BS,,is it the same as all the other native, in respect to specs,, and in particular, sizes,, thickess etc ???

This is a molding knife,, and I don't want to be shipping out neck rigs if they aren't going to fit....

Thanks for your help Guys...

You are truely Pros at this stuff...

Eric..

Look better, what you buy, next :))

What you think, i have one nice pink bra, with name "Spydie", i have claim one bad hook at that at spyderco.com ??? :)

:p

Hey 4str...

Was that the dealer on the right hand side, bout 3/4 the way down, near or at the end ??

I only paid $30.00 for it..

It's on its way to the Bead blaster and polish that nasty clip....

As long as its the same size as the Native I don't care what it looks like...

Just gotta buy a Real Spydie now is all...

Another thing I noticed..

No Lums,,(well one, but it was WAY overly priced) Not very many spydies in general No Salsas, no Spots,, nothing new...

Fairly disappointed about the show itself....
More antique slip joints then anything else...

Had fun though sorry I missed you 4str...

Yep, I think that was the dealer.

Sal said in his comments that Spyderco provided the handles so I think it should work OK for molding. I know there are some people who own both. If you post a question on the Spyderco.com Forum you should be able to get someone to give you a comparison.

You're right, there weren't many Spyderco knives at the show (what I was most interested in), but there were 100's of Case slipjoints though. There were also a number of custom knifemakers but few manufacturers or dealers.

We did meet at the show, I don't think I introduced myself as 4 s ter however. I talked to you and Mike Sastre about a sheath for the Lil' Temperance.

The show wasn't a loss for me. It was the first knife show of any size I've ever been to. Now can put some faces to names, such as you and Mike. I got to meet Jot Singh Khalsa, handle some of his beautiful (but expensive) knives, and check out his knife related jewellry. Finally, I bought one of John Greco's Flat Ground Falcon Folders and got to talk to him about how it was made, how to tune it, etc. All-in-all a good time. I've been planning to go to the Blade Show in Atlanta this coming June and now I'm looking forward to it even more!

p.s. Buying a new Spyderco Native isn't a bad idea (it's my favorite Spyderco model). The new CPM S30V model is coming out now and the new 3D Native in VG-10 is due in a couple of months.

Eric is referring to the Canadian Knifemakers Guild Show which is held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Jeff Diotte is a Knifemaker from the Southeastern area of Ontario. Here's a link to check out some of his knives.

Sorry to hear someone else got burned on one.I have had dealers offer them to me for 18.00 ea if I would buy 2.

I sort of have a little gouge that is parallel to the "grain" of the blade on my S30V Native.....but I dunno if its normal, anyone else know?
