Problem with PM2

Hey all,
I recently purchased a new PM 2 and it came with a sticky lock out of the box. This was my for PM2 and I was very excited, but the sticky lock really bothers me. I brought it from kniveworks.com so I was wondering if I should just return the knife and buy a new one, or if I should contact spyderco and try to get them to fix it. Thanks for any feedback or suggestions.

I have several PM2s, and none have had cranky locks. You might try flicking it open about 8200 times while watching Sportscenter. That might smooth things out for you.

My PM2 required a little breaking in. This could be the case with yours. if not, Spyderco will take care of you.

Try some graphite from a pencil on the tang of the blade. One of my first PM2's had this problem and I believe that is what fixed it.

The PM2's I have owned are all a little stiff out of the box. You can oil it up or just break it in by flipping it open and closed (my preferred method).

witch one! if its the DLC black PM2,its going to be a little sticky at first, requiring lots of flicks to smooth it out over time.

My blk PM2 came a tad sticky too. A couple days of aggressive flicking and she's been perfect since. I'm sure yours will be fine with the same treatment.

Like others have said...mine was a bit sticky but after lots of flicking open and closed its fine now.

I should be receiving my blackout PM2 in a few days time. Glad I read this thread and know of the remedy.

With mine all I had to do was play with the stop pin. Unscrew the screws spin the stop pin a bit and re-tighten. It seems like most problems with the para if you mess around with it enough most problems will go away. Same thing with blade play, I usually take the knife apart and reassemble, or sometimes I have to switch screws around. Also try and loosen the stop pin screw ever so slightly , not loose but not super tight either. One I had would stick if the stop pin was screwed in super tight

Probably not an issue and will smooth out eventually. I have had many knives with sticky locks and every one eventually smoothed out.

^^This! Exactly what I did

I'm inclined to believe the fix you're referring to above (loosen this, twisting that ya da ya da) happens naturally. Hence mine was sticky, I flicked it as I used it, now it's not.

To the OP, a word of caution. Please do not loosen anything on your PM2 if you don't absolutely have to. Again, it seems the problem you are having will work itself out naturally as you use it.
Good luck.

I personally have to take a new knife apart when I get it. To me it's half the fun of collection knives along with sharpening and maintenance.

LOL. To each his own. You're a gambling man I see. Nothing wrong with that. You should take that luck with you to Vegas. [emoji6]
