I just cleaned my sebenza today and it seems as if the liner lock isnt going over as far as it did before. I dono maybe my mind is playin tricks on me, but it just doesnt look like it, I checked everything and and double checked.....am I goin crazy?

I must be having a brain freeze but what do the numbers on the inside of the sebbies scales mean? B99? born date right?

Try flicking the knife open once. The lock will probably go back to where it was. The numbers inside the scales indicate when the scales were made, not necessarily the knife.

B99 means that slabs were made in second quarter of 1999. In my experience it is not unusual for the framelock to not lock in as far after a good cleaning. As long as the lock is secure, not to worry.

JP, not to worry. Your lock was extended too far when I tried it. And you had vertical play. I bet cleaning that Sebbie took care of that issue and probably got rid of the vertical play. Sebbies are designed for about 75% lock up and you had about 100%.

yeah I took it apart again and did the "flick" and made sure everything was copasetic. Yeah its where it should be now at about 75%, and the vertical play is gone, so wohooooooo.

Glad to hear it. There is a note somewhere by Chris Reeve himself that states you will have lockup problems if there is dirt or grime in the moving areas. Cleaning a Sebbie usually fixes everything up. That unique you have is quite a knife and I was worried that it needed to go back for a tuneup, but that is good news that all it needed was some cleaning. Where the lock was when I first saw it was entirely too far.

Just FYI

The video on how to clean and reassemble the Sebs that is available in the sticky on this forum is excellent.

Here is a link if you need it. (Probably most practical if you have DSL or Cable Modem hookup).

That one time flick open after cleaning always resets my large reg. Seb to where it should be. The Sebenzas are amazing examples of engineering and craftsmanship.
