Problem with Spyderco Pingo

I swapped the pocket clip over from right to left and promptly dropped the crew and it went into neverland not to be found. Spyderco sent me another screw and when I installed it it seems that the back spring isn't pressing on the blade as much and the blade doesn't stay closed as well as it did. Any suggestions on what I could have done to cause this?

thanks

Have you tried going back to square one, putting the clip and everything where it was before the parts went on their last voyage?

I did that, as I decided not to switch sides. I also had an issue tightening up the screw. I thought the nut section had a flat side on it but the nut just kept turning so I had to grab it with a needle nose pliers to tighten the screw.

So, even putting the clip to the original location you are still having the same problem?

I have yet to take my pingos clip off but now that I have read this it won't happen. Op please keep us updated

I can't say if the screw is wrong on not but Spyderco's warranty dept supplied the replacement so I would guess they know what they are doing. I intend to take it back off and see if I can find something that I may have missed. I don't carry it often but don't like having a knife that I like questionable.

thanks for the replies guys

Well, I took it back apart except for the pivot screw and looked at the barrel portion of the screw set up. They do have a flat side on the barrel which corresponds to flats molded in the FRN grips. However the back spring has round holes and does not have a flat spot to stop the nut portion from spinning. It is easy for the FRN to strip out the flat but that shouldn't interfere with the springs function. I flipped the two back bolt/screws and it took out the blade play so all is well other than it doesn't match the front pivot screw but I don't care as long as the blade closes properly.

I took the clip off of mine and then put the screw back in the hole, like I always do. I had no issues at all.

Just landed a TI Pingo. I'm a lefty so first thing I did was change the pocket clip. No issues.

Yours shall remain a mystery.

You know if it's not working and you can't puzzle it out it's really worth sending it in to Golden for a fix. My Ayoob lost a clip screw and they tried sending out new ones but they were either too long or too short. So I sent it in, they milled down the long ones and now it's back like new.

I'm guessing you're facing some kind of tolerance stacking issue that's just not going to resolve itself. I know that would "bug" me.

I am speculating that when the FRN stripped it allowed the flat side of the barrel nut to turn in line with the back spring hole allowing just the smallest amount of play to the spring keeping it from putting the full amount of pressure on the blade. But as I said, it is now working as it is suppose to do all is well.

Thanks for all the kind replies.
