For some reason my Wetterlings hatchet gets small chips from chopping straight grained wood with no knots, has anyone else experienced this? thanks for the info.
The edge might be brittle from heat buildup during the final sharpening.
You should be able to file the chips out and be left with good, tough steel underneath.
My GB wildlife hatchet (and every Fiskars product I owned) did the same thing first time I used it on a piece of cold pine, I wasn't too worried about it.
