Problems in the "Other Forum"

Has anyone over here any idea what seems to be the problem in the "Other Forum"? It takes F - O - R - E - V - E - R to load. It reminds me of the period a few years ago when BFC was suffering "Ping Attacks".

The other forum has had performance issues for years. It's been deteriorating significantly for a month or two now. I suspect it needs to be taken down for a day or so, have old threads archived, disks defragmented, etc. It's actually a lot of work.

I have noticed that the ads take for ever to load, then the rest of the page comes up more quickly. Seems like their ads are coming from a different server or something.

Either way, THANK YOU BLADEFORUMS FOR NOT GOING WITH ADS!

Chris

yep, I've pretty much abandoned the other place, too slow, too little traffic, too little moderation.

I was just lucky enough to get on when it was having a good spell, I guess. I scored a MicroTech LCC Manual for which I have lusted for years, so I am happy. I was just wondering if it was only me that was having problems.

Remember, just because you're paranoid does not mean that they are not out to get you.

I always enjoyed going "over there" for a visit now and then, but last night it had gotten too slow to work with. Too bad, there's plenty of room for another knifeforum :(

There is another one called knifenet which doesn't appear to be very friendly. I went on it once or twice and then lost interest.

I was banned from KF just after New Year so I haven't been on it. I've been real busy with my own kitchen and cooking forum site that is now inhabited by most of the people from the kitchen forum at KF. I thank KF sincerely for helping supply a base of activity for my site.

I like that site very much, it has a homey feel to it. For some reason I just don't feel compelled to post much over there though.

It's a great forum except for the part where if you're not logged in, you have to wait for 30 seconds to browse. That drives me crazy. I don't want to log in all the time. Some times I just want to lurk around. What's up w/ that anyway? Doesn't make sense.

Here's the kicker, once you're registered and logged in, it's not like the pages load any faster, in fact if you just had a 30 second wait it would be an improvement.

I think the reasoning is more people will register and login to avoid the 30 seconds wait, that's the theory anyway, my take is it discourages more then it encourages. Plus then you get all the "special notice" email. When I registered and used a different email so all the "buy this" and "vote republican" email gets ignored.

Out of curiosity, I just went over there and used Mozilla Firefox browser, and it loaded pretty nice for me. About like this place.
But when using IE6SP1 browser either here, or KFC, it's very slow.

I'm on 56K dial up.;)
