I was wondering if anyone who owns a patrol machete has had problems with it when chopping wood?
The knife seems a little thin from spine to edge from the handle out eight or nine inches.

Thanks, jeff

I haven't put mine to any severe use yet, but it has done a fine job of brush clearing and the occasional firewood chopping with no complaints or signs of stress. And this design has been around long enough that I don't really expect any problems.

Thats good to hear. I just received mine on thursday and got to use it on saturday. I chopped some weeds and brush and then moved on to a slightly decomposing branch about 4" in diameter.

I got about half way through the branch and the blade snapped in two.

I think it is possible I may have gotten a bad heat treat, but I have seen the same thing happen to Cold Steel, LTC Kukris three times.

And for the record I was using a fairly light chopping effort, it not I feel it would have let go with just one swing.

I am trying to get an exchange for the machax, Iknow it is thin also but not for the same lenght and the blade is much thicker.

I've had no problems with mine so far. I've used it fairly heavily mainly going through saplings and sizable dead tree limbs. Part of the reason why the PM has such devastating cutting power is due to the thin stock. Maybe you did receive one that had a bad heat treat. This is the first time I've read anything like this on the forums.

First I have heard of you doing this also. I used one hard last August doing demo cutting for the Buckmaster group. I used the patrol and cut 47 2x4's going through knots and all. over 150 coke cans filled with water and over 200 pieces of rope. Never sharpened it. Just stroped it on my hand. I thought it held up well.
That may be one that just slipped and missed something in heattreat or tempering. Just get another from them. They are good about things like that. That is too good of a piece to do without.

Sevebedges,

Sevenedges,
I just found your post on the CAMILLUS FORUM of BladeForums. First off, I want you to rest assured will will stand by your/our product 100%. I find that I can expidite issues like this better if we can get together on the phone, so if you would email me your phone #, day or night, I'll call you ASAP on my nickle. We will take care of this pronto!

We have not had any problems like this, and are VERY anxious to get a look at the broken machete. The PATROL MACHETE has proven to be very durable in testing and field use, and the only thing I can imagine is that there was a flaw in the steel that was not found during production. I want to state again that this is NOT normal. We have shipped thousands of PATROL MACHETE's and many thousands of BK&T's, without anything like this surfacing. We really want to get to the bottom of it.

Your problem is our problem, and we want to take care of it! I look forward to talking to you....

Best Regards,
