Problems With Sprint Run Paramilitary-2 CF S90V

I was looking long and hard at the new Para-Military 2 but have noticed the exchange has had several of them for the past couple of days.

I wasn't thinking of the sprint run but more of a regular Para-2, G-10 with S30V, that's what made me wonder about this knife while shopping around.

I watched a video on the knife and it seems pretty nice if you like 3.5" folders. Anyone have one and love it? :)

It's a nice knife. I didn't care for the original, but the P2 has a lot of changes that seem to work well. Fits my hand and the blade isn't too small. Nice ergos, similar to the Sage but a little more real estate. Compression lock takes a little getting used to (mine's a bit sticky to unlock) but it does make you feel like it's not going to fail anytime soon. Other changes are a pivot bushing design, and larger screws and lanyard hole. Open back design for easy cleaning. It's a decent knife for people who don't want to go as large as the Endura, Police, and Military. It's a knife I'd recommend, especially if you want a knife for cutting rather than just flicking open and shut.

It is a very good knife. I have the standard one in my EDC rotation and love it. I will never not have one of these if I can help it.

I have the P2 standard and love it. I have not carried anything else for months. It is the perfect all around folder for me.

Problems? What problems:confused:?

I've only been able to cut cardboard with it and I still get the feeling that the knife was mocking me for bringing it out for only that:grumpy:.

I wouldn't assume from the fact that something shows up on the exchange that there are problems with it. :) Aside from the fact that everyone's tastes are different, there are lots of reasons people might list knives they like on the exchange: deciding the upgraded materials on the sprint run don't justify the cost over the regular model, buying sought-after knives with the intention of "flipping" them for a profit, needing cash for other expenses, etc.

I have one of each, production para 2 and the sprint S90V para 2. I absolutely love them both. No complaints whatsoever. The regular S30V version was a birthday gift from my wife this year, which I'm very happy about, cause that ensures that I'll never get hard up for cash and convince myself to sell it. Yes, I know, awesome wife!

No problems...S90V is excuse enough to buy one. I think the sales are most likely people who pre-ordered and want to harvest some gain. I will also say, and this is personal opinion only, that while the compression lock is both brilliant engineering and very strong, I don't find it very ambi-friendly and there may be others who aren't wild about its ergos. I'd say, however, that it's a should-buy or even a must-buy even with those qualifications, if you can find one at a price that you think is reasonable.

This hobby is no different than any other in the fact that what is new, hot and in short supply is highly coveted. When you finally get "it" you come to realize it's just another knife period and unless a person bonds with it then the thrill wears off and you are onto the next. Nothing wrong with the knives or the person just part of the hobby. I had a Para 2 for a week and it was fantastic but I had my eyes on something else and it was a means to an end. I also know that soon there will be plenty to go around.

I consider the CF S90V Para 2 one of Spyderco's best EDC's right now.

I like what Sal did with the Para 2, getting that knob off the handle butt, blade not sticking out when closed and videos say it's a tad longer in the blade.

I really have no idea what a compression lock is? Is it a cheater bar that comes to the top and lets you move a linerlock over and out of the way to unlock easier or something?

I know it's a lesser sub-species than the CF S90V Para 2 - am hoping it's economy twin is just as good in form and function.

Put in an order for a Military on Wed. and a Para 2 S30V G-10 this morning. It looks really nice. :D

The look under locks.

Then this might help with the picture - http://www.freepatentsonline.com/y2002/0000042.html

This is a compression lock. As far as being lesser, I am really not sure what you mean by that?

Until recently, I had 3 of those knives (sold one to fund another purchase, got 2 left). All of them flawless. The lock up was perfect, the blades centered, and the overall fit and finish was excellent.

Oh, yeah,

Also, the S30V Standard will more than suffice. I assure you . . .

When it came down to all the fancy Militaries I've owned, every one after the 440V, my biggest warm and fuzzy is carrying the standard S30V issue Millie. I'm sure the standard Para 2 will do the same for others. There's something very liberating about carrying a very fine knife that you can replace any time you want or need ;)

Thanks for the great links you guys wherein I learned more about said compression lock, wherein there were great descriptions of said lock and were comprised of textual and pictorial information of said lock and other locks contained therein.....lol :D :D

Sorry kind of vague and not worded too good. I meant that the S30V G-10 version was of lesser materials - no carbon fiber scales or S90V blade steel. I hoped that the mechanics would be just as good as the more expensive version.

I have to watch the purse after buying an XM-18 and now these last 2 Spydies all in a month, especially after shooting my mouth off in a thread about thinning out my folders to a dozen "keepers."

Well that lasted about as long as my little, knife carry case started feeling light and looking empty!! :( :foot:

Not sure if I consider Spyderco's high end G10 "lesser" than CF. Maybe not as exotic but likely more durable. Splitting hairs at this point.

If nothing else, I strongly recommend the soon-to-come Para2 in CTS-20CP and G10. I believe that particular steel is comparable to S90V but with a few differences(less carbon, less chromium, more vanadium/molybdenum, added silicon and manganese). Hard to say for sure, but offhand I'm thinking almost same wear resistance, maybe a touch less corrosion resistance, and more toughness.
