Problems with the BK2 Sheath

As seen in the other thread, my BK2 came. Knife is great, but the sheath has a small problem.

After buttoning and unbuttoning the sheath no more than 12 times, the inner female end tore from the rivet/nylon and I can no longer clasp the band.

Is this common? Anyone else have this happen? I will contact Tomar's Ka-Bars tomorrow, but was curious with other's experiences.

That's a bummer. I'm sure they'll take care of it for you. I have two and neither of them ever did that.

That sucks. This is the first time I've seen this happen here. I'm relatively new, but still the first time.

i've never much liked those snaps. too rigid. a bit of velcro strapping and a couple minutes with a needle and you'll have a scratch proof system.

or KaBar will send you a new sheath or back (modular right?) don't cha know.

New one on me, course, I disassemble the sheaths first thing for parts and what not. Kabar will hook you up.

Looks like the rivet didn't set all the way maybe? I like the velcro idea, I might do that. Don't care for the snaps either.

Mine did the same thing. I took the whole strap off and used some double sided, self sticking velcro, Works great.

I didn't have that problem but the entire strap with the snaps on it ripped off the larger nylon piece the day I bought it. I'm not a fan of the nylon thing anyway (though I did sew the strap back on) - took it off and used paracord so that I can carry the knife horizontally anyway.

Keep us updated with what happens, Kabar has excellent customer service so I'm sure you will be taken care of...

Flexxx,

KA-BAR does indeed have fantastic customer service. After an early morning email yesterday, I received an email this afternoon saying they'd be happy to ship me a new sheath. One email later a replacement sheath is in the mail. :) Go KA-BAR!

I switched over the BK2 to the Combat Master sheath and it's been awesome, perfect fit. I'm in the process of getting the same sheath for the larger blades, but will have to do some cutting to the inserts.
