Problems with The Knife Connection

Hello all, curious if you’ve had the same issues as me with TKC and their lack of communication.

I purchased (2) sets of G10 scales that I use on my BK5s. One set works great, and one set rattles...A LOT.

Inspected the rivets from one supposed identical set to the other and the rivet sizes were noticeably off.

I sent them an email on 30 September 2017 explaining the issue with the rivets...and never got a response.

Quite frankly, it left a sour taste.

I don't have any experience with them, but if you haven't heard anything after 90+ days, I'd try a second communication with them. If they have a phone number listed, I'd go that direction. That way you know someone heard your issue.

Good luck!

Dale has always been great in my experience and I’ve been buying from him since 2011. I’d say something slipped through the cracks. Doesn’t sound like him. I assume you have tried contacting him again since?

I’ll try again, just didn’t want to keep putting in effort if the juice isn’t worth the squeeze.
I’m patient; Just giving it time in case it was a heavy load near the holidays, but given the time frame, I started to think they didn’t want to deal with it.

I had one of the pins rattle a bit so I simply put a small piece of plastic in there to fill in the gap.

I suspect that you simply fell through the cracks. Realistically, if you haven't gotten a response by now (3 months later), it isn't coming...shoot them another email, or call as has been suggested.
FWIW, I didn't put my handles on for a few months, and was missing part of the hardware... which I realized when the handles shifted during use. TKC was very responsive, despite the elapsed time. (I ended up doing a home fix because I'd already started the project; but it was nice to see that their customer service was prepared to address the issue promptly)

I've dealt with Dale quite a bit over the years. Very personal experience and very friendly person to deal with! I'd give em a call to see what's up. Dale will make it right.

I have had nothing but good experiences with TKC. Bought multiple knives from them and had an ESEE 6 with TKC and managed to break the blade. Contacted TKC, sent in the broken blade and they had a new one in my hands quick.. like 8 or 10 days.

You broke the blade on a ESEE 6. That is a story worth hearing.

The handles should come with two sets of rivets. One set is longer and are for the .25" stock on the bk2/3. Maybe they only sent you the longer set.
I was going to mention this as well.
I had an issue with mine...until I realized I had used the wrong rivets.

If that's not the issue shoot ‘em a call. They’ll straighten it all out for you.

The one time I had a concern they were quick, accommodating, and very fair.
Try em again. Perhaps your earlier message slipped through the cracks. Or their response went to your spam...

After my initial email inquiry, I spoke to them on the phone to resolve it.

Very easy for a business to acidentially miss or delete an email. Try Dale again, I am sure he will help you out

Got a little crazy batoning some fatwood.

I don't have a BK5, but I have TKC scales on an Izula and a BK24. The fasteners on both sets come with different lengths. The smaller fastener goes closer to the tang, while the longer one goes in the scale hole closer to the butt of the handle. Mine came with instructions emphasizing to put the correct one in each spot.

I’ve been in contact with Ethan now.

I put both sets of handles on both of my BK5s that I use in the kitchen, one Green/Black and one Tan/Black. The Green/Black handle set rattles a lot, the other is perfect.

I understand the packages come with proper/improper bushels for specific models; however, the ones that were supplied to use for the BK5 in the Green/Black set have improper lengths that I verified/compared with the bushels in the Tan/Black that doesn’t rattle.

Pretty solid handles, nonetheless.

I have purchased a couple knives from them and asked lots of questions. They were very responsive and helpful. Great to deal with.

Just got word that they sent out the correct aluminum bushing to me yesterday. Looking forward to the disappearance of my rattle!
