This is the end of a three part series I;m doing on fishing with Paleolithic implements. I've got to apologize for the vids being out of order. I have the first two recorded on my HD camera and am having trouble getting them online.
In part 1- I will process Yucca leaves and make fishing line as well as a ground bone gorge hook.
In part 2- I catch some fish with the "Paleo" fishing kit.
In part 3- (this video is part 3) I scale and gut one of the sunfish with a shell and stone flake.

Pretty cool, I've used broken shells I found on the shoreline to process fish before. Usually I didn't bother scaling them as I was cooking them over a fire or on a hibachi. I'd like to see the other two videos.

A flake of glass, either volcanic or man made is sharper than any steel blade. The blades on many microtomes are made from broken plate glass.

That is pretty nifty. I may try that with a fish, just to see how it is, but I doubt I would make it a regular practice session.

I was pleasantly surprised how well that shell worked as a scaler. I normally use the side of my spoon but I think the shell actually worked better. I was a little concerned with the first flake because it just wasn't very sharp but the second flake was like a razor. I just grabbed two of the smallest flakes from the debris pile when I was knapping earlier and I didn't pay much attention to them. Fortunately, I got one that had a nice edge and it worked well.
