After press-fitting the finished guard, using J-B Weld to moisture-seal, work is started on the Damascus collar.

Slot is filed in collar material, fit is not so critical as guard, but still not loose.

Slotted collar is ground to height and width, and rounded on work plate of grinder.

Using slitting saw on drill-press, slots are cut for shoulders of file-groove.(note high-tech Vise-Grip machine tooling)

Using chain-saw file, collar is grooved to shoulder slots.

Collar is filed and sanded.

Holes are drilled for 1/16th" pins which will go through collar, two file-worked nickel-silver spacers, and into the ivory handle scales, so that everything will line up throughout the assembly and dis-assembly of finishing.

Finished collar. Only TWENTY TWO more pieces to go. Don't worry, I ran out of energy to take any more photos.

Look at bgspecialk's Number Three for 2008 for finished Dagger.

Thanks, hope you enjoy looking at work in progress.

MORE, MORE, MORE!!!:D I always like it when I pick up tips from guys who actually know what they are doing;) The tricks with the paper pattern and polishing the face of the guard stock and using it as a mirror are good ones. I have heard of using a slitting saw to groove guards and ferrules, but never seen it done. As an asidehow do you scribe the guard with a knife? Do you glue the pattern to the piece? Also, do you made the paper pattern by folding twice, making one cut and then unfolding?
