Ok, so I know there are a million and 1 topics out there comparing this blade to that blade, or asking for the "best" knife. Each is usually met with a million and 1 different answers, or a "what are you going to use it for?" So, this thread while in the same vein is meant to be slightly more fun for all and less about an actual answer. As opposed to a one knife to rule them all mentality, we are going to pretend we could carry every knife we wanted. Let us assume it is a magical bag that would allow us to carry anything with no weight or space concerns. I would like you to pick one knife from a variety of categories that you would want with you if you could take them all. These categories are divided simply by what I perceive to be common differences, although you of course may see it differently. First off, the rules:

The knives suggested must meet the following:
1. They must be a production blade, sorry I love customs too, but lets keep it simple
2. Must be able to go online and buy this any day of the week, not a LE with 3 copies made, not discontinued, etc.
3. Must be under $300 for each category.
4. Must be best VALUE, so the $299.99 Busse or swamp rat is not always the right answer.
5. Only pick your top ONE knife from each category.

Now, the categories. I will give a description that fits MY uses, I know many people will differ and I am certainly no expert. I will also provide an example knife to give an even clearer view. So, let's get to it:

Category 1: The Necker
Description: Obviously, the back up knife you wear around your neck. Must provide extremely quick access in emergency situations. Blade under 3".
Example: Bark River Bravo Necker

Category 2: The Fixed EDC
Description: The knife you would carry with you everywhere. Simply cutting open boxes and slicing veggies, up to woodwork and animal prep if need be. Blade between 3-4".
Example: Fallkniven F1

Category 3: The Folder EDC
Description: Concealment, areas where an open carry is frowned upon. (I know some prefer folders regardless, I personally prefer fixed). Other than that, same guidelines as category 2.
Example: Spyderco Manix 2

Category 4: The Small Bushcrafter
Description: The blade of choice for delicate precise woodwork. From feathersticks to whittling, anything that requires a steady hand. Blade under 5".
Example: Mora Bushcrafter

Category 5: The All-Rounder
Description: Not the best of any world, but good enough for most. Something that could chop in a pinch, but whittle if need be. Not the best skinner, but something that would work. An all around blade between 5-6"
Example: Becker BK2

Category 6: The Survival/Combat Knife
Description: Something you would feel as comfortable defending yourself with as utilizing outdoors. Blade between 6-8".
Example: USMC Ka-Bar

Category 7: The Large Bushcrafter
Description: A chopper that is still lightweight and portable. Basically a small machete, between 7-10".
Example: ESEE Junglas

Category 8: The Battle Blade
Description: A knife (if you had proper training) that could prove itself in a hand to hand situation. Something for the enjoyment of owning or the ever elusive zombie apocalypse. Blade at least 10"
Example: Khukuri House Scourge

Category 9: The Giant
Description: A "knife" or machete that could take down anything. I have seen trees come down with 16" machetes, so let's go at least 15".
Example: Condor 18 inch El Salvador Machete

Category 10: The Grab Bag
Description: The knife you love that did not quite squeeze into any other categories. Something you would toss into this imaginary weightless bag to really round out your arsenal.
Example: ????????

Just for some variety:

Category 11: The Tomahawk
Description: Something for fun or protection. A throwing hawk to pass some time, or as protection from wild animals.
Example: UC M48 Ranger Hawk

Category 12: The Hatchet
Description: Back to reality. A portable companion for your small knife to give you a chopper to go with your slicer.
Example: Estwing E44A 16 inch Campers Axe

Alright, get to it! And please, this is about having fun and coming up with a ridiculous dream bag that could never happen, not nit picking about the definition of this or that. Thanks for participating!
