Please bear with me this is my first online review of a product online….ever. I was fortunate enough to with the Fiddleback Forge production Bushfinger NCAA bracket contest on USAMadeBlade.com I happened to be in the Carolinas the day after the Championship and went to their Salisbury shop to pick it up. While there I purchased my first strop.

To this point ESEE knives have been my go to knives so I was anxious to see how this would preform. Since Christmas I have been using the ESEE 5 my wife bought me exclusively outdoors so when I went to cut a feather stick the Bushfinger really bit into the stick much more than what I was used to. I also decided to make some poplar rope and build a few fires.

I have used the knife while hiking around, and for food prep.

Back in Colorado I have taken the knife on a hike and skiing. I did not get to use it while out and about but it was nice to have. I snapped a few pictures for evidence. I will say I appreciated having the stainless blade for skiing because my stuff has a tendency to get rather damp during the day.

In closing I am very impressed with the quality of this knife, and am looking forward to it accompanying me in 14ers, hunting, and on various excursions during the summer. I touched the edge up with a sharpmaker and then finished it on the Flexx strop and it is quite sharp.
I will likely buy a new sheath sooner than later. The one that comes with it is great but hangs down a bit low for EDC.

Thank you again to Whitty and USAmadeBlade.com for the knife! You guys are awesome, and your passion for knifes is very apparent. I look forward to doing business with you all in the future.

Thanks for dropping in and throwing up a great thread Russ. Congrats on winning the knife and I hope it's just the first of your Fiddlebacks :-)

Congrats on the win Russ. The Mid Tech Bushfinger is a great way to dip your toe into the Fiddleback shark tank. It's just the start ...

Thank you for the excellent review! Very nicely done and great pics.

I have already been looking at additional ones. It will likely be a very expensive prize.

Posts like this make me wish I didn't live in Flatland. Growing up in SW Louisiana and serving 21 years in the Navy, mountains have always held a special allure. Thanks for doing this review. I had no doubts about the knife, but it was a nice confirmation that elevation change in feet needs to be measured in something other than tenths. The good news is that my house is about 12.5 feet above MHHW (Mean Higher High Water- average of the spring high tides) so we're fine (flooding wise) up to about a category four storm.

Great review Russ. Congrats on your first Fiddleback.

Welcome to the Fiddleback Family and Congrats on winning it.
Nice review of the production knife. The spine shot with the rolling country in the background was my favorite. Nicely done. No doubt you will enjoy that knife.

Wow! Loved this review. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

I made these production knives to really work. I made the edges as thin as I make them here. They are made to cut! I really hope y'all love them.

If you don't mind, can you e-mail me a full size copy of the shot with the spine showing in front of the beautiful background?

Thank you Russ! Glad you won the NCAA tournament challenge. One heck of a comeback to do it as well!

I would be happy to email you a full size copy. I looked on the fiddleback website but could not find an address. Where would you like me to send it?

I really like the edges on the bushfinger it really takes a great edge and maintains well.

Hey Russ,

I admire the fact that you just got your first Fiddleback and you jumped right in with some great photos and a nice review. Keep up that enthusiasm and you are going to fit in great on this forum. Awesome job!

Phil

Congrats Russ, and nice review. Yes, there is a huge difference between the ESEE-5 and the Bushfinger. The ESEE-5 was designed for field dressing downed helicopters, and the Bushfinger is designed for more organic materials :)

ESEE 5 to a Bushfinger? Yeah, that's a huge difference there. Good stuff.

I have a izula, 3,4, ls, and the 5. I have been using the 5 so much because it was the new knife. I feel that the bushfinger and 5 make an awesome pair.
