Hi All

I just ordered a Fiddleback 12" production machete from knives ship free for $130. I had $60 dollars worth of rewards points with KSF. So the actual cost was $70. How are these machetes? I will be using it for camp chores. Does it have a 90 degree spine?. Are you able to do light batoning and chopping?

Thanks

Peter

Its the best machete in the world. I'll let the other guys fill you in on their opinions, but its design and functionality is the best in the world.

I killed about a half acre of blackberries yesterday with mine! Outstanding ergos and just the right thickness to be tough yet light. I have 4 machetes...I only reach for one now.
You'll love it!

I use mine for all camp chores except food prep. It is a really great machete. I have batoned mine quite a bit with no problems at all. I have one of the super early ones and it has a 90 degree spine. I'm not sure on the newer ones but I'm sure they do too. I love mine!

Why isn't your 16 inch version the best machete in the world rather than the 12 inch version?

im going to guess that it is made from slightly thicker stock and it works better for folks that may encounter harder woods than a typical machete might see in say a jungle enviroment

To be honest, they're two different tools. The 12" is about the most ideal camp knife you could ever have and is amazing at processing harder woods of all sorts and even a watermelon or cantelope. It's pretty good with vines and simply just good with flimsy, leafy plants. The 16" is a light-saber with the light stuff and the vines and the extra reach is significant for clearing light brush. Plus it's a bit much in the kitchen or even campsite so it stays on the work truck. Get 'em both. :D

I have the 16" and love it. My favorite machete I own. I still want a 12" at some point.

I own the 12-inch version and I love it. Best machete I've ever owned. Too late tonight to post details or pics but I'll try to update tomorrow.

I got my machete. Very well made. It's very sharp. It slices thru newspaper. Wel worth the money. I will be taking it on my next backpacking trip!

Thinking about buying one of these...having a hard time deciding on the 12" or 16".

Can thoroughly recommend the 12", I have 2 that get used a lot. I believe the 12" is a little thicker than the 16" so will cope with more substantial brush/limbs. Great handle, great steel and heat treat, either one would be money well spent.

Can't go wrong with the 12" er. Mine cuts with the power of thought : ) Seriously, after using a cheap hardware store machete, I tried the FF 12" on a stand of bamboo in my yard, and it went through with half the exertion and twice as fast as the cheapo. Afterwards, I stropped it, and it was good as new! Plus, the leather sheath is awesome. I really don't know how they sell these with any profit, the sheath alone is worth the price of the machete itself!
