With a $150.00 limit, what is the best tactical fixed blade one could purchase?
(Is the Buck Intrepid with Tanto Point a good possible choice?)

i would count the steel against the buck. i beleive it's their 425M. with a $150 limit, you might be able to get a decent custom blade from newt livesay, lynn griffith, greco, etc. for produciton knives, i'd lean toward a busse from what i heard recently about them. i clicked on a banner and knifeoutlet.com had the 5" basic for under $150.

I haven't used one, but I've heard very good things about the BM Nimavrus. Also, for a little more than $150, you could get Lynn Griffith to make you a knife. Again, I haven't used one, but the look very nice.

Stuff to consider,
Mitch

Without a doubt...

CQB-1 Terzuola design, Camillus craftmanship and under that price limit.

It even includes a kydex system with a multi position tek-lok® attachment.

See the post/ad/picture somewhere in this forum.

I have one for like two weeks ago for T&E and some photos...and loving it!

You can go wrong with this one!

The term "tactical" leaves a lot of open territory these days. What precisely will you be using it for? By tactical, do you really mean more of a utility/defense knife, and if so, what are the utility jobs?

In general, for $150, I'd start looking at some of the custom makers, and design exactly what I wanted. Newt Livesay seems to have plenty of knives in this range and is spoken of very highly on these forums.

I must also endorse Newt Livesay's knives. I bought an 82nd AirBorne model for $150 and it ia an excellent fighter design and a good utility blade as well. I bought an AirAssault for $125 and it is probably the best overall utility knife I own.
Greco would also be a good choice. He seems to have taken a page from the book of Strider, because Greco's knives seem totaly indestructable. A good comparison would be like a Livesay knife on an atomic steroid.
Also most of Greco's knives are around $100

Camillus CQB1 Terzuola . About 125.00 on the net sites. End of discussion. I even got 2 I was so impressed.

You might want to give Allen Blade a call or drop him an email allenblade36@aol.com . I have spoken with him a few times and he offers some "very good" prices on his knives and will make them the way you want.
Great guy to talk knives with too.

I have an Air Assault by Newt and a Dozier and also I think Lynn Griffith would be an exellent choice. These three all have Micarta handles and Kydex sheaths. All are great knives for the money. Also, check out the Ka-bar Next Generation for less than $100.

Basically, just look around, take your time and buy what appeals to you the most and gets the best recommendations from your fellow forumites.

Newt Livesay builds a very nice knife at a reasonable price. If he doesn't make what you like regularly, he'll make you what you want. Best thing is that he is an easy guy to do business with, and he stands behind his work.

Just ordered a Woo from Newt Livesay and I'm planning on ordering a Air Assualt next spring sometime. For your money these are excellent knives.

A Livesay Air Assault or an ICU would be great. Very tough, reasonable price, and Newt is a great guy to do business with.

A BM Nimravus in M2 steel is just what the Dr. ordered if a "tactical" type knife is a must. Look at Fallkniven also. Spyderco Moran is an excellent choice.
I'm assuming that you are looking for a factory made knife.
I highly recommend the Nimravus. I have both sizes and am extremely pleased with both.

So, what IS the speed of dark?

I have the old-style Nimravus in ATS-34 -- cuts beautifully. As a tactical street self-defense piece, my only concern is the old sheath. If I fall to the ground or do a roll in an encounter, the knife might jar out of the sheath and I may cut myself. On a test roll, it came out very easily, and luckily didn't get me...but could have just the same.

Can we send the old sheath in exchange for a new one to benchmade?
