Production numbers for various knives.

I was checking out my Izula earlier to see what the number was (10267), and I thought, "I wonder how many there are out there. Obviously at least 10,267".

Then it hit me, I've never really considered how many knives common production knives have. For instance, a Buck 110... Tens of thousands? Hundreds of thousands? Perhaps millions?

Just wondering how many models typically make it out there for production knives.

My experience is that manufacturers like to keep production numbers close to the vest. I also wouldn't rely on your blade's serial number as indicative of the total number of knives produced to that point. Although it's possible that your Izula was, in fact, the 10,267th one produced, it's just as possible that it wasn't. It all depends on the numbering scheme used by the manufacturer.

According to Jeff Randall from ESEE knives, they've made over 16,000 Izulas so far. But as far as I know, they are one of the few that actually put real numbers on their knives.

Like bld522 said, I wouldn't trust serial numbers unless otherwise stated by the manufacturer.

KennyB, I would love know how many Buck110's have been made!
