Since slipjoints have been mentioned a few times recently in this and other forums I thought I'd go chasing them.

Fancied a modern looking slipjoint with a clip. What I found was lots of old fashioned stockman designs from Cold Steel, Boker, Camillus etc, plus the Swiss Army ones.

Boker have a Klotzli which isn't a traditional design but that's as far as I got.

Maybe a custom is the way forward on this type of knife - unless anyone knows a good looking modern production slipjoint

I don't think I've ever seen something like you describe, really. In fact, I don't recall ever seeing a slipjoint with a clip, custom or otherwise. But, I haven't really been keeping my eyes open for them. I have been thinking myself that I'd like to get a slipjoint with something other than 440A steel and plastic scales. I like the looks of the Tony Bose/Case collaborations, but they are over my budget, as are other custom slipjoints. They are out there, I know. You might try someplace like Arizona Custom Knives. I think their production category has Whitewing knives, which I believe are pretty good and include slipjoints (I think).

Welcome to Bladeforums, BTW. :D

Actually, I was mistaken. The Whitewing knives are at Knifeart under the Production Knives category.

This is pretty much exactly what I would like to have! :D Too bad it's already sold. Of course, like I said, outside my budget unfortunately :( .

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Spyderco is working on a slip-joint folder.
Maybe you can ask on the Spyderco forum.
Hopefully, if there is one "in the works", it will have the clip.

Good luck,
Allen.

Thanks for the link, Dave. That is a NICE knife. I'm thinking about it, as I type. Whew! Beauty....

Thanks for the welcome Rockspyder
Thanks for the links - some great looking knives out there but a little above my price range.

I'll ask spyderco about their slipjoint

I keep telling anybody who will listen that Queen makes some of the best slipjoints around. There are many ATS-34 Queens available. Some of them are marked Schatt & Morgan or Robeson but they are all made by Queen. It should be noted that older Queens are all 440C which is a fine high carbon stainless.

Thanks for the link Buzz - those Bulldogs do look good. Like you I think a good sized ricasso is a good feature on a slipjoint.
I will have a look at the Queen knives Anthony.

I guess I'm hoping to make sure I know everything that's available before deciding which one to go for.

Klotzli in Switzerland are goig to mail me some info so I guess I can keep looking around for a bit.

Glad to see so much interest in slipjoints

Checkout Queen steel knives for really good slipjoints. I like slipjoints and find the Queen knives to
be amont the best ,affordable, slipjoint out there. Also checkout the A.G. Russell web site. A.G. sells some
really good slipjoints all the time. Browning knives imports some excellent slipjoints from Japan that use
AUS-8 steel. Then there is Kersaw knives. They just brought out two new quai-slipsjoints that open one
hand and both blades LOCK!! Awesome! Keep looking for what you want / can afford as slipjoints offer
an enormous variety to choose from & in time you'll find the perfect slippjoint to scratch the itch. Enjoy.....

I also want a slipjoint folder, but what I had in mind was a 2.9" folder with a SpyderHole and pocket clip. Stag handles as well;) Oh and in CPM 420V not much to ask? Well the only way to get this is a custom... . I spend it before I have even earned it:eek: !

Spyderco are working on a 2" or so slipjoint folder.

In the UK you can carry what ever you want apart from auto's Bali's and Gravity blades IF you can prove you have a good reason for the knife. Examples include for work, hobby, religious, costume etc etc etc. Thus I can carry my large fixed blades while camping and my Vaq Grande for work (ok so thats a bit OTT:cool: ).

However if you want to carry a knife that is 100% legal no questions asked it has to be no more than 3" and not have a lock. It is always worth making sure the edge is 2.9" just in case...

Interesting that the Queen must be a slipjoint fan to have a law discrimminating in favor of them, General. Wonder what model she carries?

I'll go view those knives you mentioned Tightwad - thanks for the tips

AllenC - I posted in the Spyderco forum http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=165345
You were right!:) :) I will have to buy one of these - my first Spyderco! Thanks for posting.

Of course I've seen so many others I like I may end up with a collection

I've been prowling around Ebay for a slipjoint myself. Let us know what you decide on.

Jack

Claidheamh Mor. Claymore. :) A Scotsman perhaps?

Thanks for your post Jack - glad to see a good knowledge of the Gaelic in the forums:)

The Spyderco comes out in 2002 so I'll definitely buy one of these. I'm still looking at all the suggested maunfacturers from this thread. Of course manufacturers like Boker don't put all their products on www.bokerusa.com so I'll send for a catalogue.
