Does anybody know a good source for a smatchet?

No insanely expensive custom thing, under $ 250 would be ideal.

Very similar blades are also OK, spartan and gladius type short swords.

I collect combat blades. Modern and old designs.

Didn't CS once make something called the Warhead? That would qualify.
Double-edged, leaf shaped, you get the picture.

Hi mendelb -

I am sure John Kiedaisch of JK Handmade knives could make what you are looking for - draw up your design and post it in his forum -

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/830-JK-Handmade-Knives

For instance - check out this new "spear" knife that John made after a few of us had a thread discussing such a tool -

John can make just about anything you could dream up, and he makes his knives in 01 tool steel. You won't break a JK.

best regards -

Try looking at a Tops Power Eagle 12. You can find em for just north of 164 if you look hard.

That HI spear vala is a good bet. Scorpion I think has a few leaf blades. I made one myself, actually. Not sure I'd recommend it for a first attempt at making a blade though; it wasn't exactly easy.

Cold Steel Shanghai Shadow.

Good call. And very affordable.

I might chance importing it.
I'm in the Netherlands and our government has decided in its wisdom that throwing knives are to be illegal.
This might be seen as a throwing knife.

mendelb, the old CS Warhead had a reputation for fragility, cheap enough but I wouldn't use mine for anything but weed-whacking. The Himalayan Imports Vala they mentioned is the most beautiful I've seen, a really fine piece.

Boker used to make one. (( which I deleted )) has a model out too (that fortytwoblades posted up) The Boker one is sweet but they don't show up that often.

I see that Smith & Wesson have a leaf shaped double edged dagger.
Found it on Ebay.

Are S&W knives any good?
I remember reading quite some bad reviews on their folders.

Taylor Brands (the makers of the S&W and Schrade lines) aren't exactly known for their overall quality. :o

I've had one for about 4 years now. Works great and has a really comfy handle.

Done, I'm getting that one.

I had my eye on the CS Gladius, but this looks way better.

May throw in a Shanghai Shadow too. Awesome thing at the price.:)
