I know I need to learn to sharpen my own knives and I will but I have some nice tactical blades that I'd rather not practice on. That said, I need recommendations. Of course I would prefer someone local say Raleigh and the Eastern part of NC, but likely I need someone I can mail/ship my knife to who has reasonable turn around time, reasonable and does an expert job. Any an all recommendations are welcome. Please include name and web address if possible.

I have been sharpening free hand for about 16 years i am very good [so im told] and would be happy to make your knives sharper than you have ever seen

Contact STR! He may be able to help you. You can go to his part of this site under makers. He does just about everything. THANKS! Kevin:)

Who says you have to practice on a nice blade? Just go down to your local liqour store, buy one of the $10 cheapy crap steel folders (without serrations) and practice to your heart's content.

i have been sharpening knives for about 24 years. if you want a scarry sharp edge on your knife you can ship them to me. it would take me about 1-2 minutes per knife. i'll make you a deal, donate some money to vampire gerbil's fund and i'll do them for free if you pay shipping.

the best ever sharpener is ..... drsharpening.com ....and he is very good at traditional japanese cutlery if you have any....very fast turn around and fair prices......ryan

You've gotten some very generous offers for sharpening and some good recommendations. But for the money you would spend on shipping, sharpening, and the risk you take when sending something through the mail, why not spend a little money on a good sharpening system (Lansky, Sharpmaker, etc.) It won't be as fast as doing it freehand, but any good system is fairly fool resistant.

maybe a pic of the knife you want sharpened? some of the more complex compound grinds require a belt sander, especially if they are heavily recurved...
