Hello all. I just secured this lovely Rick Barrett orishagane shobzukuri tanto...

Haven't decided what I'm going to do with it yet. But If I decide to keep it long term and use it... I intend to have it mounted with something a little more robust than Shira Saya. Can any of you guys and gals suggest a person that provides this service. Also someone that might not be opposed to using modern materials.

Randy Black at Kuro Sako....katanarb@cox.net.

Best I have found in the business for using blades(great tsuka maki, great prices, stays in communication).

Wow...fantastic blade you have there. Good luck with the furniture!

I was really hoping to get the tsuka core made from Terotuf or something else that will be water, mildew, and rot proof. Does anyone know of a mounter (at least who does handles) that will work with such materials. Mr. Black declined to work with such materials.

He did so with good reason.......you might try Dan Kefeller....he knows these materials well.

Traditional tsuka maki folks work with traditional materials....had you said Terotuf in the beginning, I would have recommended Dan, and no one else.

And let's be clear.....silk over same' with lacquer applied over it is as water, mildew and rot proof as you would desire UNLESS you are deployed in Thailand during Monsoon season.
