What is the typical cost to have knives professionally photographed?

Is it really worth it to have it done? I would imagine not for every knife. But does it make a difference in your sales numbers and or sales price?

I'm not sure of the pricing, but having professional photos taken by a reputable knife photographer will deffinately help gain exposure for your work. For a typical knife package, not only do you get the image, but the photographers submit the photos to the various knife publications as well which helps to market your work. I have spoken to several makers who have seen a noticable increase in sales after being published.

He is good at what he does.
The packages include submissions to the knife magazines.
When the magazines have all those pro photos to pick from, I imagine the stack of maker taken pics won't even get looked at.

There are others too besides Coop, but he is active here on BF.

If you want to get your name out there, and especially if you are doing this (or plan to) as a job... then I feel professional photos are a must.

There are a handful of makers that are crazy good at taking their own photos, like Burt Foster... but most of us are mediocre on our best day.

Much like #'s posted.... even if you take some of the most amazing photos in the world---- the big envelope received at BLADE, Knives Illustrated, Knife World, Tactical Knives, Knives Annual, etc.... that is marked Jaymeister, is not going to grab the immediate attention that one marked SharpbyCoop, Point7, Chuck Ward, etc... will get.

Most of the knives that I have had professionally photographed have been published in at least one publication. Some have been used in multiple publications.

A great photographer can make even shitty knives look good. Of course here at Wheeler Custom Knives, we do not advocate or condone the making of shitty knives. ;) :)
