Professional sharpening service for military/tactical knives?

Hi!

I'm new to BladeForums, but relatively comfortable with blades in terms of metallurgy, technology, carriage and use.

I've been thinking about a Fairbairn-Sykes for a long while, and finally bit the bullet and ordered a "real," or at least MoD specification/issue FS (Egginton/William Rodgers manufacture).

I know that the knife will come unsharpened, and that due to the FS's diamond profile blade, initial sharpening is best left to a professional. That being said, there are a LOT of organizations on the Net claiming to be "professionals" that may or may not be.

So let me pose this to the collective wisdom: For a knife like a FS with a diamond shaped profile, who are the best, most competent and generally most capable sharpeners out there? I'm happy to ship the knife to a talented shop!

Many thanks in advance,

BunBun

Take a look in here:

Razor edge gets good reviews.

That being said, poke around and send some emails, ask particular questions about the steel used on the knife, what they suggest regarding edge angles compared to "Your intended usage" see how the individual professional sharpeners compare via info shared then make an educated decision.

You already made your decision about your knife. Now make sure the person who handles it meets "Your" expectations.

That Colin's guy looks legit!

All freehand, great stone selection too.

160,000grit! Haha

He has every stone imaginable. I watched his YouTube and aside from the big tool chest of stones he has totes and totes full of them. He does free hand or with his custom edge pro with titanium parts he designed and had machined. Check out his YouTube saddendude. I rarely do this kind of promotion but he's a good guy, he deserves it. He put up with quite a few questions from me when I was learning.

Many, many thanks to all who have responded so far!

I'm very grateful for your shared experience and knowledge.

Thanks again,

BunBun
