Not much talk about this knife. Any thoughts on handle comfort, balance, sheath, etc.? I'm thinking it might make a good backpacking knife being stainless steel and just 3 ounces.

Thanks! Anyone else? I'd really like some input on handle comfort. Is there enough room for placement of your little finger?

Also, is it overpriced?

TAH, I've heard nothing but GREAT things about the knife, in all areas you mention.

The only setback is of course the price. It's a great steel, and of course a CRK, but for around 25% of the price you can pick up a RAT Izula. I'm not trying to push you away from the PS, if you can swing it, I say do it!

You might also want to consider the Inyoni, which is longer, lighter, and cheaper than the Professional Soldier, and is a bird & trout design rather than a tactical utility.

Seriously, I think you'd be better off with the Inyoni for backpacking.
Personally, I'd like to get both! :D

Inyoni

Blade 3.5" - Overall 8" - 2.6 oz.
Sheath - natural leather made by Gfeller Casemakers
$ 175

Blade 3.375" - Overall 7.5" - 3 oz.
Sheath - Kydex made by Blade Tech
$ 185

I'm sitting here with a RAT Izula in my vest pocket. GREAT little utility.
Not quite competitive with the PS with its 2.5" blade and 6" overall length.

I don't have one--yet!--but if I did, I'd probably put a set of overlay scales on it to give it a better grip purchase:)

There was an excellent article on the PS in Tactical Knives March 2009. It was a field test and they gave it rave reviews. I am sure I will have one someday !

The one thing that concerns me is the thumb ramp on such a short handle. It appears the ramp will limit thumb placement. Price does seem high, but it's comforting to know the quality is there.

The Inyoni is very nice, but for backpacking, I like the PS's all stainless and Kydex set up.

I'll take a look another look at the RAT Izula, but it's not a CRK. ;)

Well, after considering a bunch of other skeletonized knives, I decided to go with the PS. I knew I would. :rolleyes: Should be here on Wednesday.

The only setback is of course the price.

True, but at $185, it's $200 less than a Sebenza. ;)

nye,

Any chance you could post this article. I'd love to read it. :thumbup:

What I like about the PS and the Izula(which I have vertically strapped to the front of my Osprey pack, always in reach) is that as a camp knife, you tend to get crap of all sorts on the knife and they clean up really easily / are hygenic food prep knives without scales.

Good point on food prep. And with the PS being stainless, the blade doesn't need to be coated with a rust prohibitor.

Here is the review of the Professional Soldier from Tactical Knives, Enjoy !!!

Thanks for the post - seems a really useful standby knife and the D-shackle handle slot is so simple and brilliant - typical CR
