Profiling the Good Villager Khukuri

Ok, so what specifications should a good Villager khukuri have:

Blade:
- Good forging
- RC about 57-59
- good steel - hopefully
- good blade design style

Handle:
- wooden, well seasoned, not lacquered.
- tang should go through handle completely.
-buttplate should be simple, about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick brass or steel.
- bolster - well done without any jagged edges and is well secured.

Karda and Chakma
-hopefully useable, but not always.

Scabbard:
-sturdy, well constructed, able to stand up to hard use.

Price:
- affordable for a working khukuri

Any other qualifications that should be added?

The only problem I have with villagers is that the handles tend to be too small.

atc, I've encountered the same problem on some villagers, especially those 16" long and under. Because I put my villagers to hard use, it is imperative the handle be large enough for me to get a good tight grip on it. Because of the handle problem, I won't get anything less than an 18 incher.

So, Harry, that's another qualification I'd have to add: the handle of every villager should be on the large side to ensure full utility of the khuk.

That sounds like something very hard for a villager Khukri to stand up to.The villagers are probably not made to fit a "westeners" hand, they are made for nepali hands, wich I understand is bit smaller than our hands. The HI-khukris are made to be sold to "westeners" and the size of the handles can be adjusted to that.

Resonably finished blade so that they can be cleaned up easily (if used for food prepartation).

The handle should be attached solidly and peened solidly into place.

Meant to reply earlier, but I'd sit down, read the thread, and start wondering where the 4th villager, THE one I always kept handy had gone. Usually bout the time it was too dark to find it easily.

This time I remembered to look BEFORE it got dark. Success! Now I feel better after about a week of being off my balance.

Funny how each khuk, if it's "right" for you will have a different personality.
