I have at last got a Project 1 knife! Its a 1999 model in mint condition. However I was stunned to see that the belt loop is not stiched and rather uses a snap closure system. Now I understand it is to facilitate easy removal and fitting to ones belt, but will this not also make accidental removal a real problem?

Will this be a secure belt carry?

Cheers :D

Oh and what a knife... :p

It's fairly secure, I have had mine come unsnapped and have snapped in place when they really werent. If I was going in the bush, I would have a sewn loop and a strap for knife securement.(added) I also took the 'o' rings from my Nkonka and put them on my Sable IV sheath too tighten it up a bit.

I haven't had any problems with my Project I sheath, but if I thought I needed extra security I'd have a custom sheath made for it.

The sheath employs a unique and clever snap. It only un-snaps in one direction, not the other - try it.

While I have never had a problem with mine and actually enjoy the easy on/easy off feature, you could always use the grommet holes to lash the sheath to your gear or even your belt if you were concerned. Or, you could get a nice kydex sheath for those times when you want a more secure sheath.
