I recently purchased a like new CRK Project 1, but the sheath I received with it differs from what I expected. Rather than having a strap and snap closure, it has a single nylon stud that (sort of) secures the knife in the sheath (similar to the stud used on a "Skinner's" sheath).

Has anyone else received a sheath like this one for a Project 1?

The older Project knives used the nylon stud. I am unsure when they switched to the strap. What is the DOB of your Project?

Good question. I actually purchased the Project 1 "second hand." It's in like new condition, but it did not come with box and born on date paperwork. I failed to inquire of the original owner how long he had owned it.

I'm pretty sure it was made before the switch. You can order a new style strap sheath from CRK.

I have used to have bouth sheats,
and I have found that I like old one more.
New one is so ordinary,
I would prefere old one,
it holds blade tight even without extra security with nylon.
I had never have problems with any of his sheats, they are bouth O.K.
that is just my optinion
sorry for my bad english:(

The fit of the sheath and the nylon stud together with the length of the blade work pretty well in combination to secure the knive. I don't think retention will be an issue. I was mostly just curious about the differences in the sheaths.
