Is it possible to get something like this custom made? I love that hilt. I love it so much I want two. No really.

Yangdu offers knives similar to these now and then. Why don't you email her and see what she has on hand.
Looks like an evolution of the D-2 knives that were sold about a year ago. Similar length and weight to this one but with less curve to the guard. Great feel to them. Here is a poor picture of a couple of these;

Thanks for the info and the pics, Westfork. I will email Yangdu soon. Actually, I'm awaiting the arrival my first HI Khukuri. It should be here soon. But what I'm really looking for is a pair of blades that are similar to Chinese Butterfly Swords. It's impossible to find high-quality Butterfly Swords today. The hilt on the Bowies is an improvement over no hilt, but a d-shaped hilt would be even better. Anyway, thanks again for the info.

HI did make some large knives with fully enclosed D-shaped guards several years back. Maybe someone here has access to some pictures for you.

Wow that would have been a great project knife. Look at that wood! Probably a good thing I didn't even have a chance on this bad boy;)
