This is wild sunflower that is dead. It makes great kindling for starting a fire. It is easy to get and break (when dry).

I grabbed a few stocks and ready to break them up.

unclebryanswildernesspics060.jpg

Here they are broke up. The process took about 10 seconds to do.

This is golden rod it is my favorate fire starting of the dried plant stalks that I use. It is tender and kindling. There is a LOT of
it in Nebraska (since it is the state flower).

This is dried thisle.

unclebryanswildernesspics067.jpg

This is thisle down.

unclebryanswildernesspics068.jpg

This is a close up of the thisle down in my hand.

unclebryanswildernesspics069.jpg

When I find thisle down I put it in a plastic bag that I carry to save it for fires that I make.

unclebryanswildernesspics044.jpg

Now we are getting to the good stuff. The Project II at work. This is a picture of a Mulberry stick that I will baton my knife through it.

unclebryanswildernesspics046.jpg

This is the knife half way through the stick.

unclebryanswildernesspics050.jpg

This is what I cut the stick down to. Several small split sticks about half inch in diameter and about 2 feet long. Any size
works, but the smaller the better for starting out with.

The website would not let me put all of the pictures in so here are the rest.

Here I am breaking the two stick across my knee.

Now that the sticks are broke I am puting the thisle down on the fire platform.

unclebryanswildernesspics057.jpg

I am stricking the Swedish Military flint with my Project II on my thisle down.

unclebryanswildernesspics058.jpg

Putting the dried stocks and then the cut Mulberry sticks that I cut up with the Project II.

unclebryanswildernesspics045.jpg

Now that the fire is going. I am heating water in my canteen cup to have a hot drink.

Here is to all of you who like Chris Reeves Knives. Enjoy the pictures.

The website would not let me put in all of the pictures that I wanted to so here are the rest.

excellent pic's thanks for sharing, the camera your using is awesome...as well as the project II:thumbup:

the same compliment from my side ;)
what did you wrap around the handle? and what kind of bag do you wear across your shoulder?

btw. the binocular is a steiner safari?

cheers
Arne

Beeisser the line that have wrapped around the handle is 45lb. braided
fishing line from the company Burkely.

Now to the shoulder bag that you asked about i am in the process of taking
some pics and telling about it hopefully tonight 2/7/2007. ( my nephew is helping me with doing these pics and putting them on the forum so hopefully
he will be able to help me tonight)

the binos that i have a the preditors model not the safari. I was just in cabelas not to long ago and they still had that model there in the ohmaha ne.
store I was looking at the model that is just a little smaller. I am thinking of getting a pair of those. Well I got to go and take more pics of Chris Reeves
knives and that sling bag that I carry.
take care all,
Bryan

Great pics, after reading the thread I just went and bought one of those firesteels.

u812 I just checked out the wed site you posted I did not know that
you could buy the firesteels with out the finger holds. That is how I will
get them now.

I noticed them but did not know how hard they would be to use.
Also thought that maybe they could be attached some way inside the cap so the cap would be the handle for them.

I also just received my strike anywhere matches.
I was thinking of waterproofing them so I noticed one of those candle warmers the wife has in the kitchen.HHUMM says I.Dipped the matched in the melted wax ,let dry, dipped in water, scratched off the wax and it worked.

I got one of the steels without the hand hold in the smaller size and it fits inside the handle fine with my other stuff.
