This is wild sunflower that is dead. It makes great kindling for starting a fire. It is easy to get and break (when dry).
I grabbed a few stocks and ready to break them up.
Here they are broke up. The process took about 10 seconds to do.
This is golden rod it is my favorate fire starting of the dried plant stalks that I use. It is tender and kindling. There is a LOT of
it in Nebraska (since it is the state flower).
This is dried thisle.

This is a close up of the thisle down in my hand.
When I find thisle down I put it in a plastic bag that I carry to save it for fires that I make.
Now we are getting to the good stuff. The Project II at work. This is a picture of a Mulberry stick that I will baton my knife through it.
This is the knife half way through the stick.
This is what I cut the stick down to. Several small split sticks about half inch in diameter and about 2 feet long. Any size
works, but the smaller the better for starting out with.
