On another thread, Craig has mentioned that he is thinking about ordering some full-tang khukuris without the handle slabs, to allow project-minded khuk knutz to "build" their own khukuris. I, for one, am very, very interested in the idea and would buy at least two of the do-it-yourself khuks. If we get enough support, I feel sure that we can convince him to place an order. My preference would be for something in the 18" OAL range, with an AK type blade, but I would be happy with just about anything. Anyone else interested?

Steven f,

Sorry, but i am new to this knife terminology. Would this blade have a handle layout similar to the Panawal. ie choose your own handle material and bolt/rivet in place?

If so, you can put me on the list.
Thanks
PC.

PC, as I understand it, the khukuris would be, for all practical purposes, Panawals without the wood or horn handle pieces riveted on. We, the customers, would then be able to carve and attach our own handle material. The advantages being, in my opinion, the opportunity to have a unique, one-of-a-kind khukuri from GH, at a lower than usual price (since the khuks would come without handles, I think we can safely assume that they would be less expensive than the handled versions). Of course, all decisions will ultimately be made by Craig -- but since it was his idea in the first place, I feel certain that he'll go with it if we get enough folks signed up.

Craig, since this idea was of your doing, what's the plan? Are the "project" khuks gonna happen?

Definitely. I will be doing another order in January, and will include about 15 of these things so I'll have them on-hand for interested parties.

Also, got a message from Lalit this morning - the Christmas shipment was going to be shipped so it would arrive on the 24th! However, I'll be out of town for Christmas, and so I had him hold them until the first week in January. I hope this doesn't screw up anybody's gift-giving plans.

The delay came from the making of the AKs, which take more time than other khukuris due to the weight, size, handles, and the hollowed out grind portion of the blade.
