This is my first project so I have started with a very inexpensive knife. It only cost $20.00 with a neck sheath. The SCHF 16 has 9cr18mov stainless steel. I have had the knife for about a year, and I have yet to have to really work it over good on the stones. I just keep it barely arm hair shaving sharp. I use it mainly as my edc necker. I've used it for food prep, and I did some whittling on a broom stick with a tough knot in it. I am impressed for how cheap a knife it is, at how well it holds its edge, with the razor edge I put on it coming back quite easy with just some strokes on my diamond stone.
Because of this, I decided it was worth making my project knife. Here is a picture of it after I have stripped the blade. I planned on polishing the blade to a mirror finish, but I kind of like the patina the blade has now after the strip. We'll see. I had to soak it 24 hours in cheap $7.00 a can ''Klean Strip Premium Stripper'' in order to strip the blade of the factory black finish. Here is a picture of a before and after so far. Next, I am making Osage Orange wood scales. I will post more pics later.

I have the schf14, and it's been pretty decent too. I used it as an edc for work for along time. It's held an edge quite well too, thou the blade geometry wasn't very good. I ground mine down a good bit and reshaped the blade slightly. It's become a much better slicer, and chews thru wood like a beaver.

Schrade makes decent beater blades for a good price.

The before pic is not showing up unless you are using "Tap Talk." But I thinkmost people know what it looks like with the factory black on it. :D

I was originally making wood scales for this knife. I still plan on maybe doing this in the future, but for right now this is where I am. As I said in the op, I striped it, and now I have formed a one piece polymer scale for it that is contoured to the features of my palm. I also soaked the blade in vinegar for 24 hours, but it really hasn't affected the steel that much. I plan on another attempt at a forced patina in the future, maybe an acid etch. I really like it so far, and it's fast becoming one of my favorite edc's actually.
